"A diamond in the rough!"
Within walking distance to the downtown strip loaded with shops and authentic restaurants/bars. You can basically walk and/or bike to a lot of things that will keep you busy. People at the hotel were friendly. Nice bakery/cafe attached. A very unique style/decor to the place. It was a nice way to take in the culture of the area. A couple of friendly pets at the hotel was a nice touch. Enjoyable experience... we would stay there again.

"Wonderful perfect beachside lodgings"
I stayed here a week with my daughter and her 19 month old baby, meeting friends with their 3 grandchildren. What a wonderful location, and low key atmosphere...tables set up inside and outside for dining, with beautiful white coral sand for the floor. ... the hotel's onsite beach was only a two minute walk from our rooms....here we found both sun and shade under palm trees, sometimes staying for the whole day there ordering tacos or guacamole and chips from the beachside mini-restaurant. The beach offered perfect conditions for skim-boarding, as well as bigger waves. Not a glitzy "all inclusive" type resort, just a beautifully kept casual place. One person in our party of 9 had to do some work, so the access to wifi for multiple users in the lobby at a large table was perfect. As for rooms, there were little thatch covered cottages/rooms but because we wanted private baths, we stayed in a 10-room two story building. A big plus: no mosquitos or crawly bugs anywhere!! The staff was so cordial and welcoming, the rooms immaculately maintained with fresh linens and towels. I plan to come back with more of my children and grandchildren.

"Super Relaxing"
We had a fantastic time despite a few mishaps. To be clear, the staff was really pleasant and friendly. But they weren't really efficient or speedy in resolving a few issues, despite being verbally receptive. For example, we reported a dead scorpion in our room before dinner and it was still in our room when we returned later that evening. In the morning we discovered that it was still alive and killed it. When the housekeeper arrived, she failed to sweep and mop the floor to clean up the venom and guts even though we both asked her to during separate interactions. It was especially upsetting because the front desk clerk also assured us that she would relay the message about cleaning the room properly. All was resolved when I had a lengthy conversation with another clerk and our room was cleaned thoroughly for the rest of our stay. We were also offered another room, but opted to stay put, as it wasn't worth moving and the cleanliness issue was resolved. Visitors should also be aware that the water pressure in the private bathroom of the Penthouse was low and the hot water scarce at times. My boyfriend opted to shower in the shared shower hut, but it was inconvenient because we paid for a private bathroom and essentially got half a bathroom. All snags aside, none of this put a damper on our trip because the property is beautiful and the staff was really pleasant. Our problems were eventually sorted and the vibe of the property can't be beat! We will definitely return

"Great place for the low season :)"
At the picture you will probably see my cabin - nr 7 (mint cushions :) So I was not surprised when I arrived - the same as on the picture in the catalogue! Other cabinets may look different - I saw one not as beautiful as mine... Maya Cabanas is not directly at the beach - people who stay in Maya, use the beach at Rosa del Viento, a nearby hotel (2 minutes) so it's not a problem :) Rosa has a nice restaurant, drink service at the beach, and a bike rental - so you get two hotel services for one price :) At Maya you can have two things for breakfast - scrambled eggs (take the one with tomatoes, onions an chilli) or pancakes - I strongly recomend pancakes! The very nice lady makes them on a tiny pan, so you need to wait, but the taste... YUM. Of course you will have juice, coffe or tea - but only the pancakes you will remember ;) The stuff speaks english, you can make a phone call free of charge (I called Poland...) At the back of the hotel is a small canal - you can take a kayak free of charge (15 minutes peaceful rowing). Remember the cabinet has no air conditioning - so for the low season (30 celsius day and 20 celsius night time) it is a great place. Attention! Taxi drivers may not know where Maya Cabanas is - it is a small, intimate eco-oasis. Just tell them it's opposite to Rosa del Viento :) I love every day I spend at Maya - I strongly recomend it!

"Small & friendly"
Very happy with overall stay.Staff all pleasant & helpful. We had a master suite.Free bikes are a massive plus as it is 3 .5km to beach areas.Takes 20 mins on cycle path (flat). Also used them to go into town centre(only 5 mins on bike)Furniture a bit old & handles missing off some drawers.breakfast basic but sufficient.Free litre bottle of water each day in room.Had to put toilet paper in bin not down toilet.Removed every day so actually wasn't that bad. There is a venue behind hotel that has private events. We had two nights of blasting music til 4am! Would be awful if this happened every night.Pool area good, nice warm water & a few sun beds.We always got 2any time of day.

"Beautiful Rustic Cabanas on the Carribean "
We had a great stay at Punta Piedra, the highlights being the breathtaking view (we had cabana 21, with a private 2nd story patio overlooking the the Caribbean!) and the beach, which had the softest white sand, plenty of comfortable furniture options to lounge on, and never felt overly crowded. The room itself was quite nice, but definitely "rustic," and it wasn't as comfortable an it could have been. For one, the room would have been extremely hot if it weren't for the strong ocean breeze we had most nights, but we had to leave all the windows and the sliding glass door open, which made the curtains blow around like crazy all night. Being an eco hotel without AC, this could probably not be helped, but I can't imagine getting a good night's sleep if we stayed in the hotter months and didn't have a breeze. Some things that COULD be helped would be having more than one towel hook, a garbage can outside of the one in the bathroom (where the used toilet paper goes), a bit more storage and an extra key (the door has to be locked to close, so if only one person wants to leave the room, the other has to be locked in or has to lock the other out). The staff were friendly but didn't go out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. The free breakfast also left something to be desired, but hey, it's free. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would recommend the hotel, but we'd love to see them go the extra mile to make it a 5 star experience.

"Gorgeous hotel close to food and entertainment!"
Hotel staff were very welcoming! We were given a drink upon arrival and a 5min welcome massage. On the way to our room we were shown where everything on site was. The rooms was okay very spacious had a massive hot tub and separate bathroom and a patio area. The pool area was beautiful quite big and has a swim up bar. Theres a gym. Theg have four 'hot' tubs outside... but the water was never hot.... it was cold. There is no sandy beach at this hotel. They have like a area where they have beds hammocks and loungers away from the pool area facing the water. But it's surrounded by rocks. This didn't bother us as the way it was set up was beautifully. People staying at Kore get free entry to a beach that is 5-10min bike ride away and loungers that beach is absolutely stunning. The food drinks were okay... portions were small but unlimited as it is all inclusive. We only ever had breakfast there not spectacular... standard. We had lunch there once and it was buffet style with a great selection of food (seafood, burgers, pasta, salad...). Location was pretty good it was in the middle of everything. They have free bike rentals at the hotel. If they had bikes available we would cycle instead of a taxi. You have to be early though to get bikes by 830am or they'll be gone. It's close to the Mayan Ruins and close to some of the most beautiful and delicious restaurants I have ever been to in my life. HARTWOOD, Mur Mur and Casa Banana!! I would definitely return
