"This is a lovely, clean hotel with wonderful staff and only a 7-minute walk from the T2 Valfonda Stazione Santa Maria Novella Tram Stop and the train station. It’s on a very quiet street but within three minutes of restaurants and shopping. The nice-sized rooms are decorated in traditional style but are so well maintained and spotless, as is the whole hotel. Oh, and the room air conditioning is POWERFUL! When is the best time to go to Florence?
The best time to visit Florence for pleasant weather and fewer crowds is during the spring (April to May) or autumn (September to October).During these shoulder seasons, you'll experience comfortable temperatures, ideal for exploring the city's outdoor attractions and walking between its many sights. The spring brings blooming gardens and longer daylight hours, while autumn offers lovely foliage colours and the start of the olive and grape harvests in the surrounding Tuscan countryside. Both periods avoid the intense heat and larger crowds of the peak summer months. For those prioritising a quieter experience and potentially lower prices, the winter months (November to March, excluding the Christmas and New Year period) can be a good option. While it can be cooler and some days might be rainy, you'll find fewer tourists at popular attractions like the Uffizi Gallery and the Duomo, allowing for a more relaxed visit.
Where can I find the best nightlife in Florence?
Florence offers several distinct areas for evening entertainment, suiting different preferences. The Oltrarno district, particularly around Santo Spirito Square, is a popular spot for locals and visitors. You'll find numerous traditional Florentine bars and trattorias that spill onto the pavements, creating a lively option. Many of these venues specialise in aperitivo, where you can enjoy a drink with complimentary snacks before dinner. There are also several jazz clubs and live music venues here. The area around Santa Croce, especially along Via de' Neri and Borgo Santa Croce, is another good choice. This part of the city has a mix of wine bars, pubs, and casual eateries that stay open late. It's a busy spot, particularly with students and younger crowds, and you'll often find people socialising outdoors. For a more sophisticated evening, head towards the Duomo and Piazza della Repubblica. This central area has several elegant cocktail bars and rooftop lounges, many offering views of the city's landmarks. These places tend to be more upscale and are suited for a relaxed drink in a refined setting.San Niccolò, located on the south bank of the Arno River, offers a quieter yet still engaging evening experience. It's known for its artisan workshops, which often host evening events, and you'll find some smaller, more intimate bars and restaurants here.
