"Second time at this resort. 5 stars across the board from food, to resort grounds, and outstanding staff. We loved everything about our stay. (Except mother nature sent a lot of sargassum which limited beach conditions. The resort did everything possible to clean it up but it was quite challenging. We made the best of it and I got in a few opportunities to snorkel when there was less seaweed. Smell was unpleasant; but again, not the resort's fault!) I highly recommend Secrets Akumal! Love this resort and the people! "

"I stood in the Tropical 18 years ago. I stood at the Palace this time with my sister and neice. The resort his huge and requires at lot of walking from room 8769 to buffet. The double decker buses were nice to help get around. The food was not good, not even the specialty restaurants, except Rodizio and Tokyo was good. The breakfast buffet at the Coloniel was better than at the Palace and the hotel itself was prettier than the palace. The pools are huge and there was always enough chairs to find. Had a wonderful sweedish massage by Reyna, she was wonderful. Overall, we were very pleased with the Barcelo Maya Resort."

"The property is great, the rooms are good size. The property is located in the middle of a big road between playa del carmen and Tulum and there’s nothing around. You need to take a taxi if you want to go downtown Tulum, or playa del Carmen and the taxi prices are ridiculously expensive. You can’t take uber in here. I would recommend this place if you have a car or if you plan to stay in the hotel the whole time. "

"I loved having the electric carts to take people all over not only our resort but to other resorts of the same company in the immediate vicinity as well. Gave us a much wider choice of restaurants than if we stayed at just the one resort."
