"Great location, great price"
I stayed at YHA St. Paul's for 4 nights in late July/early August 2015. The location couldn't be better - seconds away from St. Paul's Cathedral, and a very short walk from there to the Millennium Bridge, Tate Museum and Shakespeare's Globe. Be sure to stop at Cafe Rouge, right around the corner, for breakfast with a relaxing atmosphere and beautiful view. Paternoster Square is also very close, a lovely plaza with cafes, bars and a grocery store. If you must, there is a Starbucks there, but you can get Starbucks at home so try one of the locals!
I stayed in room 50, on the top floor in the back - about as far as one can get from the entrance - it's a bit of a climb, so if you have a lot of luggage, ask for a room on a lower floor. There was a nice view of the cathedral from this room; there was also a large patio which was, unfortunately, locked off. There are 4 bunk beds in this (single sex) room. Bedding was clean, although the pillow was pretty flat; you can rent a towel at reception for 7 pounds, and 5 pounds is refunded when the towel is returned; very reasonable. I was a little concerned that there were only 2 showers and 2 toilets to be shared by 5 rooms. If each of those rooms had 8 guests, that could potentially cause "traffic jams" in the morning, but during my stay I never had to wait for either. It was a little noisy late at night on the weekends, because of bars nearby and gulls can be obnoxiously vocal, but that's part of the charm.
