"We were privileged guest based on the length of our stay. The rooms were good, clean and spacious. Our room had a tub in the patio which was pretty cool. The resort is nice, clean, and you get to see wild life through it. We were there during algae season so we didn’t get to experience their private beach, but we heard it’s very nice and enjoyable during other times of the season. What we didn’t like was the pools closed early, 7pm, and not a lot to do after that time. The other downfall was the food. The resort has 4 restaurants but they only allowed us to make reservations for two of their restaurants . Also, if you make a reservation and miss it, you can’t reschedule. We missed our reservation because of a tour. We ate at Ayami, it was very good. We ate at steakville, we missed our reservation however when we got there they allowed us to reschedule with only sirloin option. The sirloin was hard and looked like a rock. The buffet food is the exact same everyday and it’s not that great. The beef was not tender, pork was not tender, veggies were not soft, too hard. They have food warmers under pots however the food was still cold. Not too many good desserts. The hotel is in a great location that has its own little town. Great to walk and enjoy the residential homes and view other resorts in the area."

"We stayed with our teenage daughter and we all had a wonderful time. Having the butler service was great for coordinating reservations and rides, everyone was helpful and friendly. We had an amazing time and can’t wait to go back again! There is nothing I would have wanted different from the stay, everything was great!"

"- Excellent customer service - Good options for food - More if a relaxed vibe than a party setting - Lots of beautiful wild life to observe. - Need more guest entertainment/evening shows - Lower room I was first given had an overwhelming mold smell and I had to be moved. Moved to a nicer upper unit and they were kind about it but if you smell mold, move. They tried to tell me it was normal but started to feel sick when in the room. - I would still 100% go back back because of the beauty of the resort, the variety of food and restaurants and the great customer care while there - If you can book directly with the resort as its cheaper than expedia packages and you get VIP access."

"Rooms and food are great. Being in a safe community to walk around made for a unique experience. Don’t take any offers to tour other resorts for a gift or voucher. Do upgrade to preferred club and make sure to use the pool, spa and dinning perks that come with it. I would stay here again."

"Secrets was clean, staff were very helpful and friendly, the pools were beautiful and there was always entertainment happening. The quiet pool was calm and relaxing if you wanted a more serene setting. The food was great and we never had to wait long at the restaurants. And if you are looking for a a late night the DJ in the lounge was so much fun! Great place for couples to relax and reconnect."

Barceló Maya Palace - All Inclusive

"It was our first time staying at Barcelo Palace. We stayed in the Oaxaca Building and our room was somewhat close to the pools. The room itself felt spacious and had lots of storage pace for a family of three. The property itself is large and combines several of their other hotels. The hotel offers shuttle service to the other parts of the hotel but we walked and felt it wasn’t more than a 20 minute walk to get to their furthest property. This is an all inclusive resort but we were not premium so we didn’t have free room service. My daughter was bummed about it but it was ok as we didn’t spend much time in the room. We liked the food at the buffet as well as their Brazilian and Seafood restaurants. Staying in the Palace allows you to eat at restaurants at the other properties. We also ate at their Italian and Spanish restaurant. Overall, we really liked the food! The servers were attentive and friendly. The only issue is having to make reservations for some of the restaurants. We really wanted to try their hibachi restaurant but we realized too late that we needed to make reservations at the beginning of our trip vs towards the end. The sargassum is prominent but we also travelled during the month of May. We didn’t swim in the beach because of the sargassum. The hotel was probably at 60% capacity and it could be a result of the sargassum. On the bright side, we had no issues finding lounge chairs by the pool. The pool is great! We also enjoyed the entertainment."
