Was a bit worried after reading a couple of bad reviews about this place, but from start to finish, a great stay. Have stayed at a few HDV's and this was the best. Great, smiley, helpful staff, good sized room (was only in a standard) and amazing deep bath. TV was huge, raided the mini bar (not too expensive). Breakfast was lovely. Close (5-10 min walk) to Royal Mile, Grass Market, etc. recommend Howies restaurant for lunch. Also lovely drink in the Last Drop. Britannia yacht was brill but don't bother queuing to see the Crown Jewels at the Castle - booooorrrrriiiiiiiiiiing! Overall a fabulous stay and great value for money!
We stayed at this hotel during the last week of September. For those who want to visit the historic sites of Edinburgh, the location - a few minutes walk from Holyrood Palace - couldn't be better. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the window opened, always a plus for me. However, the best feature of the hotel is its staff. They were unfailingly helpful, cheerful, and knowledgeable about the city.
I needed some medical help while I was staying at the hotel, and the concierge connected me to the NHS24 service so that, within an hour, I had seen a doctor, received treatment, and was back at the hotel.
Perfect. Really. We stayed four nights with friends in three rooms. First, it is a lovely hotel with an exceptionally fine location. The staff was wonderful. They helped with locations of things of interest beyond the mile. They kept our luggage, made change when we needed it, suggested restaurants and were efficient with chech in and out.
There was never a wait for breakfast seating even when the hotel was hosting wedding parties. The room was large and well cared for and nicely equipped. Just a short walk to the train station.
With narrow, winding streets and alleys, this mediaeval district is a contrast to New Town. Acting as the main artery, the Royal Mile begins at Edinburgh Castle and ends at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Family’s residence. Many tourist attractions are found in Old Town including the National Galleries, Royal Museum, and St. Giles Cathedral.
