We had a very comfortable stay at Apex Waterloo Place in Edinburgh. The hotel is situated close to Waverley rail station and is in easy strolling distance of the New Town shops and restaurants as well as the Old Town. It's handy too for an evening out at the Edinburgh Playhouse or the cinemas.
The room was a good size and comfortable, with nice views of Edinburgh.
The staff are friendly and helpful and respond to requests for different pillows, warmer duvets etc. very quickly.
The bar is nice too, and the restaurant is very stylish.
We also enjoyed spending time in the SPA on site, which has a nice steam room, a sauna, jakuzzi and pool. Not huge for laps etc., but good for a splash around.
This is my favourite Edinburgh hotel, and is part of a really nice chain too, and I have had a happy stay at the Grassmarket Apex hotel too - which has a fantastic view of the castle from the restaurant.
Hotel just as described. Lovely period feel in the public rooms, library was a welcoming space and nice to have coffee/tea/water available. The room was very spacious, comfy bed, nice to have a sofa too. Convenient location, quiet enough but walking distance to all the main tourist spots and public transport.

"Comfortable old hotel in a great central location "
On the whole this was a good experience, the Old Waverley Hotel is ideally placed for a visit to Edinburgh by train. The hotel itself is in good condition although not modern. There were a couple of slightly annoying issues in my room (419)' the radiator gurgle and growled throughout my stay and the TV reception was a bit patchy and the noise from drunks fighting outside at 2.00 am was a pest.
The staff could not have been more helpful and breakfast was excellent.
I stayed in the Tokyo room which was lovely. Very spacious and clean with a unique layout. I especially loved the bathtub. I got a nice vive from the restaurant/bar downstairs, very cozy. The staff in the bar were lovely as well and offered suggestions on things to do during my visit.
