"Special Family Event - Memories for a life time. "
My mother turned 80 and we wanted to celebrate in style.
At the same time, my cousin was playing in the Women's Lacrosse World Cup in Edinburgh, so we all set off to cheer her on. I wanted someplace really special for my mom, since it was her 80th, and I was also traveling with my 10 year old son, so we had a wide range of ages to satisfy. The Balmoral was excellent in every single aspect. The location is perfect. We could all go out and sight see, and if my mother or son got tired, we could quickly return for a quick "pick- me up" or rest, while the rest of us carried on.
The restaurants and bars catered to the guests, and were small an intimate. We seemed to end up in one each day and we were all extremely happy with the food. The pool was perfect for my 10 year old son, as well as my mom, who would spend each night there. The hotel is peaceful and elegant without being stuffy. The bathrooms were world class. I wanted a "special" place and the Balmoral fulfilled it 100%
I would return in a heartbeat. I am already thinking of when I can return next year.
Amazing stay in the Cairo Junior Suite.
Nice little touches such as a glass of champagne on arrival.
Would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone and will certainly be returning to try out the other suites.
Staying here made our weekend 10x's better.

We stayed at Nira Caledonia on August 11th to the 14th. We had room 10-10, which is on the ground floor fronting the street in an annex two doors down from the main hotel. The room was beautifully decorated with twenty foot high ceilings, a seating area a refrigerator stocked adequately but not abundantly. There was a Nespresso machine, which was wonderful and the first time we've ever seen this in a hotel. (We love Nespresso).
Even though we were fronting the street, our room was quiet. (The street is fairly quiet too). The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small and the shower had a half glass barrier that was a bit hard to deal with but it's Europe and bathrooms seem always to be too small. It was still nice.
The staff was relentlessly wonderful. We arrived very late on the 11th and the restaurant had just closed. They opened it for us and we had a wonderful dinner. Anything we needed was provided quickly and two times they refused to be tipped. Breakfast came with the room and was excellent.
We look forward to going back to the beautiful city of Edinburgh and will definitely stay at Nira Caledonia, hopefully in the same room.

Had a 1 night stay. Dropped bags off and explored Edinburgh. Went back for our room and wow, it was amazing, we had a 1 bed suite overlooking the main road. It had 2 bathrooms and the living room had a sofa bed and 2 chairs, lovely to sit and have our coffee in. Didn't experience the food or restaurant but it all looked great. We would definitely stay again, rooms could be spruced up but there was nothing there that put us off. Staff were very friendly.

Plenty of space. Good kitchen facilities. Bathroom could do with a hand rail for entry/exit to shower in the bath. Furniture and TV service was a bit dated, and quality did not match the apartment overall.
Location handy for the excellent Lothian Buses.
Built in the late 1700s to alleviate overcrowding, New Town has a symmetrical layout with broad streets and Georgian architecture. Visitors will find posh boutiques on George Street and popular pubs on Rose Street. Calton Hill, located on the east end, overlooks the city.
