We stayed here some 25 years ago, and whilst the decor has changed, the ambiance, friendliness and efficiency of the staff is still as good as ever. The hotel is a fair walk from Princes Street, but not too far. The hotel restaurant is excellent, but if you stay for few nights it is well worth exploring the restaurants just a little further on past the hotel, in the delightful 'village' area of Bruntsfield.

Staff very helpful on arriving, no parking at hotel but a 5 minute walk and £4 a day parking in nearby street. Food in hotel was excellent, maybe 20 min stroll to old town.my only gripe is the room wasn't suitable for our needs (3 adults I child). My wife and I and our 19 year old son and our 13 year old daughter our room had 1 king size and sofa bed, not suitable for our two kids, again staff very helpful and moved us to a double/double which is biggest they have. Still not suitable really,I was under the impression room was a double/twin.but overall a nice hotel
Staff member was very friendly and welcoming upon arrival. Our room was spacious, clean and had a small sink/mirror unit, wardrobe and dressing table which was more than we were expecting. Bed was comfortable and there were two extra blankets in the wardrobe which was a nice touch. There was a bathroom shared by the floor however it was very clean and small soaps were provided for each guest which was handy.
I had an early start and didn't try the breakfast myself however my boyfriend found it a little disappointing (didn't taste very fresh) and would have liked a hot-food option.
On our last night at Menzies a fire alarm went off at 4am on the bottom floor. Although the alarms on our floor/in our rooms were silent, we went downstairs and couldn't find any staff members nor did any staff go upstairs after the fire alarm (~15 minutes) to let people know the situation.
Super friendly staff, excellent breakfast! We had to leave before breakfast on our last day, so they packed us a great lunch! Very comfy bed. Shower was a finicky electric thing unlike anything I have ever seen, and I needed help to get it working properly. Would stay there again.
Located to the northwest of The Meadows public park and close to the instantly recognizable fortress of Edinburgh Castle, Tollcross is a busy road junction that gives its name to the surrounding area. Visitors can explore the Abbey and Palace of Holyroodhouse and other historical attractions in the nearby Old Town, or venture 100 meters south for a spot of golf at Bruntsfield Links.
