Arrived at hotel and was really pleasantly surprised everything was just as lovely as the pictures. Fantastic restaurant just down the road from the hotel and a perfect holiday location, it has not been over run by neon.
A curious quirk of the hotel there is no iron to use, no ironing facilities other than the laundry service, which costs and takes 2 days and isn't available on weekends. A problem if you've only gone for a long weekend and expect to be able to iron your clothes to look presentable for dinner. In every other way this hotel was delightful. I would recommend private transfer as the coach took about 2 hours from the airport with this hotel being one of the last stops as it is right on the beach. Pool was clean, there were always sun beds available, a little of the Spanish language is appreciated but not necessary. I would definitely return.

This was a last minute break and not the type of hotel we would normally choose, however it was a good location, a few minutes walk from the sea front, restaurants and the Lago Martianez.
Checking in and out took a long time as there was only ever one person on reception. There was no offer of help with bags.
The room, on the tenth floor, was spacious, with a balcony with sea view. The fridge wasn't very powerful and could not be used for storing food. The toiletries supplied were meagre: soap and multi-purpose gel/shampoo which was not replenished when it ran out. There was a bidet, which is a welcome touch, but there was black mould growing in the sealant around the shower screen.
The twin beds were uncomfortably hard. This is the main reason I would hesitate to return.
The air conditioning wasn't switched on so we needed the window open but this made it difficult to sleep on 3 evenings due to proximity to an all night club which kicked out at 7 am! With the window closed this was not a problem. The blackout curtains were very effective.
The hotel does not offer airport transfers, and a taxi from the south airport costs around €105, although there is a bus to the main bus station about 1.5 miles away.
Breakfast was impressive with a good variety of food of all types. It was a shame they stopped serving at 10 because this led to a rush for seats around 9.15. We didn't have a problem getting a table just before 9.
I stayed at Astoria (RF) for 7 days and really liked it.
Cleanliness: Very good.
Reception Staff: Very good. They all spoke very good English and genuinely friendly and useful in terms of advice, etc. Even the night time staff/concierge spoke some English and was genuinely friendly.
Cleaning ladies: Very friendly.
Location: A decent supermarket (Hiper Dino) within 2-3 minutes walking distance. Playa Jardin with 15-20 minutes’ walk. Central Bus Stop 15 minutes’ walk. All other local amenities - pharmacy, general stores, news agents, etc – within 5-10 minutes. Top restaurants within 5-10 minutes’ walk.
The hotel is tucked away from really busy and touristy area so if you want some peace and quiet at night time, this is a good hotel.
I did have some difficulty finding this hotel, as most people in Porte De La Cruz know Bambi hotel, which is in the same building as Astoria. So when you tell the taxi driver that you want to go to your hotel, use "Bambi / Astoria".

+++++ (plus) Great small room, the residence had all the ampliances and cooking tool's, well what to say it is a free duty island right in the middle between cape verde and madeira and all cheap. An island that lives of tourism so they need to care for their visitors. An authentic pearl of the atlantic ocean and totally worth to revisit.
----------- (minus) The room 151 offered as part of a holiday package had an inland view to the town and I couldn't hardly sleep during the night. I could get some sleep only after the local cafeteria close at 02:00 so it has been so difficult to sleep.

I'll give 3.5 out of 5 stars and that is only because of the noise at night because the room I was offered.
