Location of the hotel in the centre of Grasmere could not be better with many excellent walks from the hotel. Facilities and staff very good and the Dove bistro was our choice for our evening meals. Swimming pool was welcome.

I have known this hotel since I was a boy and it remains a lovely location with friendly and efficient staff. We were unlucky to have a room at the back overlooking the delivery entrance which is noisy from very early, and curiously very hot (it might be over the spa's sauna and steam room). The WiFi is underpowered (doesn't upload pictures much of the time). Breakfast is good but the cooked side is not as good as it should be (nor should it charge very small supplements for odd items). The spa and pool are excellent, but don't plan on a massage when you get back from a day's hiking - they close at 5.30pm for treatments.
We had a pleasant 4 day stay at this welcoming hotel set in beautiful grounds in a central location between Windermere and Ambleside. The hotel was a nice size, comfortable and welcoming with lovely staff. The room was spacious, nicely decorated and spotlessly clean with a large comfortable bed and a power shower in the bathroom. The breakfast was huge and beautifully cooked with plenty of choice. The bar area was very pleasant with nice seating in comfortable lounges and a choice of reading material. There was free wi fi and we were able to take our dog into all areas of the hotel except the dining room. The weather was pleasant but not quite nice enough to enjoy the outdoor patio overlooking the well maintained gardens. Some of the rooms had their own patios and hopefully one day we shall return to enjoy one of these rooms.
Great food and attentive, friendly staff. Due to administrative error on billing got email for £89 charge. Sent cheque to cover this amount and got a phone call today saying they don't accept personal cheques!
Unbelievable! Are they running a business or not?
