Great property; service found wanting

We had a 3 night stay at this wonderfully renovated hotel, in beautiful Grasmere. However, it is with great disappointment that we have to highlight a number of issues which marred our stay. The advertised housekeeping service was not provided and - whilst this was eventually explained away as being due to the hotel’s COVID-19 policy - it was only after returning from a long, wet walk to an unmade room with no fresh towels and unreplenished refreshments that we were informed of this. We then had to spend the remainder of our stay going up and down the stairs to request the basic amenities that would have made our stay more comfortable, and were made to feel almost guilty for doing so. The lack of organisation also impacted on our breakfast which on one particular day took over 50 minutes to be served. Whilst the young waiting staff were exceptionally kind and hospitable, there was a lack of professionalism and generosity from the management staff when addressing our queries. This was particularly disappointing, given that we tried to be empathetic and understanding of the challenging circumstances that the hotel were facing in the midst of COVID-19. Small details, such as ensuring that the boot room is heated, and proactively communicating with guests, so that their needs are met throughout their stay, would really enhance the overall experience. We hope that the hotel is able to address these issues for future guests, since there are so many other charming aspects to it.

In short, a very enjoyable three night stay in a gem of a hotel. Family run, friendly, clean and perfectly situated. Dan was very welcoming, happy to chat and made us feel very welcome. Check in was painless, we had already booked and all of our details were already to hand so no extra paperwork to fill in. Breakfast was table service with plenty on offer, we opted for mixed each day - fruit, breads, cooked options and cereals. Plenty of good coffee and even herbal teas should you wish. The hotel has obviously undergone a lot of work recently, our room was not just freshly painted but also fully redecorated. New carpets, furniture, definitely that "new house" feel! None of this took away from the traditional rustic charm though. A good sized boot room and drying area offered an alternative entrance should you arrive muddy. fluffy carpet socks were also available for you to use - each room had their own allotted cubby hole in the boot room. The beds were very good, soft pillows, fresh white linen, very spacious. We had booked the suite which was huge with two good sized rooms, a central storage area with wardrobe and bathroom; A good sized bathroom with a walk in shower and quality toiletries on offer. Since the room had been renovated, there were loads of sockets There was good parking both at the front and side of the hotel. You are a literal two minute walk to the middle of Grasmere Overall you would find it hard to fault and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend
