This was our third visit to the Daffodil. It was not the same as our previous visits. The hotel is short of staff, either because of Brexit, Covid- or just bad staff remuneration policies. All the staff in the reception and the bar were doing multiple jobs. The bar in the restaurant closed around 9pm- we were asked to leave the restaurant- leaving only the reception bar which is still set up with Covid restrictions.
All the bars and hotels in the area were not accepting walk in customers after 5.30pm - residents only. So there was no option but to stay in the hotel, not something we would normally do in the evening . We were not advised about this before our stay.
The rooms were comfortable but the heating controls were unreliable. The breakfast service was good.
We will not be returning to the Daffodil or anywhere in the Lake District until they sort out the staffing problems. The Daffodil charged full price for our stay but it did not provide the expected service.
