There’s an eclectic range of hotels Derby, from small, comfortable guesthouses to upmarket modern hotels and business stop-overs.

Hotels in Derby: Romans to Rolls Royce Luxury Cars

Hailed as “the crossroads of history” by the Sunday Times, Derby’s roots can be traced back as far as 80AD, when it began as a Roman fort. While it was famous for its porcelain in the 18th Century, it wasn’t until the Industrial Revolution and the Age of Steam that Derby really found its footing in the world of business. Iron foundries sprang up and the city became the main manufacturer of railway engines. The 20th Century saw Derby making engines for aircraft, and Rolls Royce even opened a factory there. The city is littered with remnants from its past, from impressive buildings such as the Derby Silk Museum to the dark fascination of Derby Gaol.

Hotels in Derby near Top Attractions

With many of Derby’s attractions being central to the city, the majority of Derby hotels are within easy reach of famous landmarks. The Hallmark Hotel Derby Midland is just a short walk from the stunning Arboretum Park, while the Jury’s Inn Derby is practically a stone’s throw from the boutique shops and superb restaurants to be found in the Cathedral Quarter (where you’ll find Derby Cathedral). Even those on the outskirts of the city seem to have something of interest nearby: the intimate and charming Priest House Hotel is just a five-minute drive from the majestic Castle Donnington.

Derby Hotels: Perfect for Business or Pleasure

With plenty of excellent restaurants and bars, a Derby hotel is perfect for those entertaining business guests or visiting for meetings. Many of the hotels, such as Hotel Aston, have their own restaurants and conference facilities, allowing you to conduct business and relax in one location

But Derby is hardly all work and no play! The presence of the University of Derby means that it has a massive student population, and with a massive student population naturally comes a top notch selection of bars, pubs, clubs and music venues. In fact, Derby has quite a music scene. Not only is it situated close to the massive metal festival, Download, held at Castle Donnington, but it also has a number of smaller venues where you’ll find the best up-and-coming local and international acts. All this is close at hand when you book a hotel in Derby.

Derby is an eclectic and vibrant city with plenty to offer, including some excellent hotels and B&Bs.

If you want to stay in another popular place in Britain you could also consider hotels in Manchester.
