lovely old historic building but in need of much repair. rather old fashioned feel to the service. i would not rate it 4 star. found the food at dinner quite bland and ordinary with lack of presentation, although breakfasts were good. Health spa and pool a bonus
Old hotel and a little tired in areas but we enjoyed our stay. Staff very helpful, food good and plenty of seating areas inside and out which was good with social distancing. Walking distance to town centre. Would definately stay again.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The property is dated and we could have done with more than one hand towel and one bath towel but perfectly adequate for a one night stay
The key attraction to the hotel is the period features that on the website make it look grand and impressive.
When you arrive, the first thing you see is hundreds of signs reminding you that parking costs extra (a running theme).
The entrance hall does appear grand but on closer inspection you see the decades of paint jobs and outdated carpet make it feel tired and slightly depressing.
Reception are pleasant enough but it’s unusual to be handed a brown paper bag with the coffee/tea provisions for your room and for staff to wear running trainers.
The room was down 3 long narrow corridors and was the smallest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in and was single glazed so was very cold and damp - especially as the bathroom had no fan.
The pool cost extra to use and the spa was fully booked. We didn’t eat at the hotel (breakfast cost £10 extra) but the bar staff was slow and untrained - offering out of stock items and then serving G&T without any lemon/lime.
Overall just pretty disappointing.
