"A Very Nice Bolthole In Soho"
Mimi´s is wonderfully located in Soho, central London, just off Shaftsbury Avenue and the theatre district. It is also a short walk north to Oxford Street, south to Chinatown, Leicester Square, Trafalgar etc, and west to Regent Street. Mimi´s is small and quaint, wrapped around the Dog & Duck where Orwell downed a pint or two. Ronny Scott´s is half a block away. The inside look at Mimi´s is all dark wood panelling, and marbled floors, which gives a cozy, atmospheric feel. The bar is small, but comfortable and chic and warmed by a modern fireplace. We started each morning in the bar/common with coffee/tea and fresh croissant, whilst reading the supplied newspapers; we ended each day in the same place with some cool music and terrific cocktails (2nd best Whiskey Sour ever!!). We had one of the much-discussed small interior rooms, and, although nicely laid out, really was small and not for the claustrophobic. By myself it would be fine, even at 6´4", but for two it was just not enough space and we moved to another room on our second night of three. This too was smallish, but with a window and a bit more space it suited us nicely. None of this should surprise given the reviews. Mimi´s is an affordable, well-appointed, modern boutique hotel price, with olde world charm, in a very good, central location. You know up front you are not getting spaciousness. We found Mimi´s a wonderful, convenient, cozy spot for a weekend London get-away and would definitely stay again.
