Pocket Guide: St George's Quarter Cunard Building Hotels

Built between 1914 and 1917, the Cunard Building is a Grade II listed building that's located at the Pier Head in Liverpool. Although it was once the headquarters of the Cunard Line, today it's home to a number of organisations, but remains popular for its ornate architecture. In the surrounding area you'll find a number of independent hotels and serviced apartments, ideally situated to explore Liverpool city centre.

Independent Hotels Close to the Cunard Building

There are plenty of three and four-star independent hotels within walking distance of the Cunard Building, all offering a range of amenities for guests, including laundry and concierge services, free WiFi and complimentary breakfast. Most hotels are just a short walk from attractions such as the Merseyside Maritime Museum and Liverpool ONE, for shopping, and free parking is available at some larger hotels, ideal for those travelling with children. Independent hotels are the ideal alternative to bland chain hotels, and you'll find some, such as the Hard Day’s Night Hotel, even offer individually decorated, themed rooms.

Explore Liverpool's Architecture and Art

Architecture fans will appreciate the Cunard Building's Italian style façade, designed by Philip Coldwell Thicknesse and William Edward Willink. If you appreciate architecture then the Georgian quarter is worth exploring. If art galleries are more your thing, head for The Tate Liverpool or the Walker Art Gallery, home to works by artists including Degas, Rembrandt and Hockney. The Foundation For Art And Creative Technology on Wood Street hosts regularly changing media art exhibitions, and has three cinema screens, or you could always check out The Bluecoat arts centre, with its programme of live music, dance and exhibitions. After a busy day exploring the city you'll find a wide selection of restaurants, bars and cafés in the city centre for dining, or you could relax with room service at your hotel.

Design Hotels Offer Something Different in Liverpool

Many independent hotels here have individually decorated rooms which have been thoughtfully furnished to reflect specific styles. This is the perfect antidote to chain hotels, and the ideal choice for couples or groups of friends looking for something a little different. With many hotels providing free WiFi and concierge services, it's easy to plan your days and make the most of your break.
