Piece of Paradise
When we first arrived in Cancun, we had reserved to stay in an all-inclusive in the hotel zone. The minute I walked into that hotel, I had the worst experience. The staff at the front desk was rude, that they were trying to hassle us for an extra $600 because they said they didn't have our kids listed on the reservation (though I'd booked a family suite).
We ended up canceling our stay there and moving to the Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort. The minute our car pulled up the gates on the the property, I was blown-away. The staff were so incredibly nice! They handed us fresh towels and champagne upon our entrance.
Our room was perfect! We got a garden view room with a plunge pool off the patio - total bonus with two kids! My husband and I were able to kick back and have a drink while the kids played in the pool. And one morning the guys working on the landscaping, climbed up a coconut tree and chopped off the coconuts and gave them to my kids to drink the coconut milk.
The Explorer's Club for the kids was great! I was apprehensive, as I've never left my kids in a place like that at a resort, but they LOVED it, and kept asking to go back.
I had an 80 minute massage at the spa, and it was delightful. Unfortunately, I was not able to take advantage of the mineral baths because it was raining, but it was lovely nonetheless.
My only complaint, and it's slight, would be the food. It was good, but not dynamic. I can imagine it's hard to develop a menu for so many varied tastes.
