Question 1

What other neighbourhoods are similar to Old Quarter?

Accepted Answer

The Old Quarter is a unique part of Hanoi, so while no other neighbourhood is exactly the same, areas like the French Quarter and Tay Ho offer their own distinct advantages for travellers seeking quality and convenience.

For travellers who appreciate the historical architecture and a more relaxed pace than the Old Quarter, the French Quarter is a good option. This area, just south of Hoan Kiem Lake, is characterised by its wide, tree-lined boulevards and grand historic buildings, such as the Hanoi Opera House and the Hotel Metropole. It's generally quieter and more spacious than the Old Quarter, making it suitable for those who prefer a less bustling environment while still being very central. Couples often enjoy the elegant feel and the array of upscale dining options available here.

Tay Ho, also known as West Lake, is great for those who prefer a tranquil setting with more open space and a focus on wellness. Located a short taxi ride north of the city centre, this area surrounds the largest lake in Hanoi and is known for its wide promenade, many cafes, and international restaurants. It's a popular choice for longer stays, offering a more residential feel with larger accommodations, often with lake views. Travellers looking for a peaceful retreat with access to outdoor activities like cycling or walking around the lake will find Tay Ho particularly appealing.
