Home to the Tudor Brownsea Castle, Brownsea Island is just a short ferry-trip from Poole, deep in the heart of beautiful Dorset. The island itself is now protected by the National Trust and has been restored to its former glory. However, that restoration has been tastefully undertaken, leaving vast portions of the island to grow naturally and it acts as a haven for the threatened Red Squirrel. Although there are no hotels on the island, Poole is just across the water and offers everything from boutique B&Bs to upmarket luxury hotels.
