Accepted Answer

The best areas to stay in Windermere are Windermere village itself and the nearby Bowness-on-Windermere, offering distinct but equally appealing experiences.

Windermere village, located slightly inland from the lake, is known for its excellent transport links. It's home to the main train station, making arrivals and departures very straightforward. The village centre has a good selection of shops, cafes, and restaurants along Victoria Street and Crescent Road. Bowness-on-Windermere, situated directly on the shores of Lake Windermere, is ideal for those who want to be right by the water. This bustling town is where you'll find the main jetties for lake cruises, offering scenic trips across the lake. The promenade is lined with ice cream parlours, pubs, and shops, with plenty of options for dining overlooking the water.
