Beautiful building, dreadful service and food
Lovely building in a good location. Rooms are well furnished, clean with a hot drinks tray and good bathroom. Rooms at the front of the house have a great view over the valley in which Whitby sits. Plenty of private parking space. We arrived late afternoon to be told we could not dine in the restaurant that evening, without explanation. We were also told that breakfast was from 7.45 am until 9 am (on a Saturday). The breakfast was dreadful. The full English looked and tasted as though it had been cooked the day before, the toast was stone cold and the salmon with scrambled eggs was also disappointing and almost inedible. The hotel seemed to be catering for about 20-30 mature people on a walking holiday, organised into set times, and we were made to feel an inconvenience to the regime. Will not return.
