Inspiring views of Croagh Patrick

The cottage is a detached property situated in a large (3000m²) garden which is surrounded by large trees and bushes. It is one kilometre from the sea and offers inspiring views of Croagh Patrick, the holy mountain of the Irish.

This peaceful location will most definitely appeal. The four bedroom (120m²) cottage is ideal for up to four adults and two children.

Do you want to escape from the pressures of everyday-life into quiet untouched landscape? Then a holiday on the west coast of Ireland is exactly what you need. And with the garden there is plenty of space for a family to have fun. We discovered this paradise a long time ago and since then it has become home from home.

The cottage offers:
• two bedrooms with double beds.
• two children’s rooms with single beds.
• living room with open fire and patio doors onto the garden.
• large homely kitchen with cooker, fridge, dish washer, coffee machine and
toaster.
• bathroom with shower and toilet.
• guest WC.
• utility room with washing machine.
• terrace with garden furniture hidden from the road.
• WLAN.
• colour TV with satellite dish (Capable of receiving European television programmes).
• central heating.

From the cottage it is only one kilometre to the sea. Westport and Newport, which both offer opportunities to explore and shop, are six kilometres away.
The cottage contains Linen and hand towels, and there are many books and games to play. We want you to enjoy the cottage and its location to the full so that when you go home you take with you great memories and want to come back.

Could have been so much more
Unfortunately this property was a miss for us. Pictures must be at least 10 + years old. Should be titled peak-a-boo view of Croagh Patrick. Landscaping is so overgrown the beautiful hillsides of Kilmeena are hidden. It states waterfront, seaview of which it is neither. House is in need of a serious deep clean, cobwebs, dead bugs in every room, hot water tank not on upon arrival and heat was very low so house was cold upon entering. No hot water at all in half bath, host stated it went out a few weeks prior but no one bothered to inform me of this. Made one bathroom for 5 adults interesting. Upstairs shows in photos as single bedrooms loft area however it is just unfinished atic space. Kitchen was well appointed with plenty of pots, pans & dishes. Garbage instructions a little unclear and a bag of glass bottles remained from previous renters. The location was quiet and within a short drive to Westport. We wanted to enjoying the beautiful scenery of Kilmeena but unfortunately there wasn't much to be seen, definitely not what was depicted. This home could be so much more with some attention to details inside and out. Once the heat was on and hot water figured out it was quiet and comfortable so we stayed the week. I do think the cleaning fee should be refunded however. I dont know who sets the standards for VRBO but between not being informed of plumbing issues with the half bath and housekeeping issues I found this to be in unacceptable condition for a rental.

We had an enjoyable stay in the cottage. There is a lot of useful information material, but some information was outdated (WiFi password, name and number of the local manager, number of the proprietor). This made it difficult to contact manager or proprietor when we encountered a problem. Once contact was established, the problem was resolved smoothly. There is a nice 8 km walk starting from the cottage, the finest part of which is a stretch of coastline that is only accessible at low tide. Other interesting walks are quite a distance away. Whenever we visited the town of Westport, it was raining. Westport could be nice, but unfortunately it is spoiled by heavy and chaotic traffic. Westport House was the biggest deception of our vacation until now. The house is in a bad state, and all interesting features (e.g. the gardens) were closed to the public. We visited Croagh Patrick, but instead of climbing to the top, we took the pleasant Murrisk loop, including a visit to the impressive National Famine Memorial. We strongly advise to take the loop with the clock, thus not ascending together with the many "pilgrims" of Croagh Patrick. In view of the nice views, it's a pity that the Murrisk loop is quite short. The two highlights of our stay at the cottage were visits to the Lost Valley (very impressive!!) and the most Western edge of Achill island (Keem Bay) with its many opportunities for "hikes with a view".

Relax, restore and reflect
Great experience from the booking experience through the entire stay. The cottage was my Irish home for almost 2 months. Very comfortable, had the space and accommodations needed for an extended stay. Michael (owner) and Bernie (local caretaker) we’re very responsive and we’re available for questions and any needs. Loved my neighbors, the cows next door! Very quiet lane but only 5 miles from Westport activities. Westport is lovely town and good places for walking, sightseeing, restaurants. The cottage was also great as a home base to explore Counties Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo.

Nice cottage but not very clean.
Disappointed, as cottage needed a proper clean: kitchen and bathroom floors not very clean, kitchen window swamming with flies on entry and dead flies under beds and on window sills, upstairs bedrooms covered in cobwebs and dusty. One toilet slightly leaking, shower tray not draining. The upstairs bedrooms with roof windows did not have any curtains so unable to cut out the sunlight. Half the lamps and ceiling lights did not work. Cottage had a good big garden and good location but just let down by the lack of maintenance and poor cleaning.

Lovely cottage, would stay again!
We had a wonderful 5 days in this darling and quaint cottage. It was perfect for my family of two adults and two children under 10 years old. The house was clean and the kitchen was well appointed. The other modern amenities such as wifi and a smart TV were nice additions without losing the charm of an older cottage. The yard and garden area was perfect for our children to run and play. The location was a good central place for visiting neighboring towns and it was an easy walk to the pier. The owners were easy to communicate with and we had everything we needed. We would stay here again. Thank you!

Good not great
It’s spacious and reasonably well maintained but could use a deeper cleaning. Bathrooms and kitchen are modernized. Nice view of Croagh Patrick mountain. Older property in the country but a shhort drive to Westport.

Secluded getaway on the doorstep of plenty
Really happy with the rental. Cottage was as described. Really warm heating as temperatures were frosty at night outside. So quiet yet only 10 mins from Westport. I'd recommend exploring the islands north west of Westport. Some can be accessed by causeways. Kids loved it and back garden had plenty space to play ball. We'd rent this again. Spacious yet cosy.

Great family adventure
Lovely farmhouse only 2km from greenway which we used regularly. The house was clean and comfortable with oodles of charm. Family of 5 had a great stay there. Plenty of outhouses for storing bikes etc. Good internet service and kitchen was functional. The garden at rear is massive with plenty of room for children to play football. View of St Patrick was nice. Minor suggestions for future: - No microwave which if you had very young children you may need. We managed fine without it. - While our room had blinds and we slept well, one of the 2 attic rooms had no curtains which during the summer meant the child woke up early. In all other respects we had a great stay there and would love to stay there again. In 1 week, we manged 3 days cycling , St Patrick and 2 days driving to see remote May North and South. Great times, great memories . Thanks to hosts for a lovely stay Paul Wynne
