Better than average

Posted 17-Jun-2015 on Hotels
Found the correct reception by chance (there's a Hotel and a Hall on the same site). Appeared to be very much a skeleton staff on a Sunday evening, who - while trying hard - didn't always succeed. The room was excellent, monsoon shower and wet room. Dinner was more than adequate, without being stunning. Wine list good value. Breakfast was adequate. The large grounds and on-site chapel were charming, and a pleasure for a stroll before leaving. Value for money - yes, just about.

Looks amazing, but falls well short of expectation

This hotel looks amazing from the approach, but the reality was that we were underwhelmed once we eventually entered the building, I say this as there are two separate venues within the grounds and neither of them clearly state which is which, and if like us you go to the wrong building, it's a hike to go back to the correct one (especially with two suitcases and a suit bag). Why were we underwhelmed, aesthetically it's a beautiful old building but ruined by unsympathetic decor, and we felt the service didn't reflect the hotel's marketing of itself.

Pros: Amazing room and views. Breakfast in the opulent dining rooms was outstanding.
Cons: An elevator to the 3rd floor would have helped with suitcases. But going back in time to the era the castle was built was worth not having a lift.
Location: 64 acres with tiny lanes to get to it but well marked on the roadways. Within close drive to Stratford-on-Avon.
It was like something out of a dream. My wife and I still can't get over it. We will definitely go back. Large bedroom overlooking the 64 acres of field surrounding the property with hundreds of grazing sheep. Tree lined entry to a castle next to a lake. Truly amazing. We'll never get over it.

We had an amazing time, We went for a relaxing break and that's exactly what we had. We found the room very spacious and the staff very friendly. The only downfall for me was the stairs with being 7 months pregnant but I maybe should have told them that on booking. We would definitely go back.

Stunning setting but few small things to improve

Posted 10-May-2015
The setting and views from the outside with lovely grounds to walk in and an easy drive into Stratford. However the corridors are in definite need of a lick of paint and the carpets are rather hideous. Also we had the biggest room ever but the bed was two singles pushed together that didn't even meet in the middle properly, they were very uncomfortable and the duvet felt like it was missing half its feathers! The staff and the food were both lovely though and I would return but maybe specify a better bed!
