The building is very old and full of character. Our room was at the top of a flight of stairs that was located in the attic. The room was spacious with a separate room for the sizeable bathroom. Dogs are permitted and our Golden Retriever was welcomed by the locals and landlady. The bar is small but full of character and atmosphere, the day of our stay the weekly quiz was being held. The bar was packed which is obviously a good sign. We chose to locate the small garden out the back and enjoyed a selection of beverages before retiring for a good night's sleep. If you are visiting Wallingford or the surrounding area we would recommend staying at The Coachmakers Arms. Room 2 is a good size with an amazingly comfortable large bed. The towels are large, and the toiletries good enough. Best of all, they are not attached to the wall. Great hot water in a bath or shower, with a safety mat. Fridge, tea, coffee, kettle and biscuits. Nice hanging space and hooks as well. Two issues that needs to be dealt with...the stairs are narrow and steep with poor lighting. The latter just needs adjusting. Check in is at 3.00 when the pub opens. It's not clear how to manage an early check-in or leaving luggage as the accommodation has changed hands. Some further information is needed for guests who booked under the previous ownership. I'd stay at the Coachnans Arms again...and again.
