Our stay was excellent and we really enjoyed our room specifically with a private balcony.

What a view!

Posted 19-Sep-2016
The absolute best thing about this hotel is the view! It is simply beyond incredible. While the rooms are sparsely decorated and very simple, the view is haw- dropping. You must stay however on the higher levels with a balcony!

Amazing view!

Posted 19-Sep-2016
Pros: I almost cried tears of joy when I got up to our room. The view was truly breathtaking and we were able to sit on the balcony and take it all in.
Cons: I would prefer fresh cappuccino. The front desk agent could have shared more information about what to do in Varenna and the surrounding area.
Location: Varenna is a beautiful town with a lovely walk way along the lake. Take the mid lake shuttle to the other lake towns. Great restaurants in this area!
The view is truly breathtaking. I can't describe how special this hotel was to us. Just incredible! The room was clean and more than adequate. Breakfast is fairly standard though they served coffee out of a machine. Varenna restaurants were within walking distance though the walk up the hill seemed longer coming back after our delicious meals! The staff were professional.

Pros: The view
Location: We could walk to everything, it was uphill coming home but a nice walk after dinner.
The views from this hotel are magnificent ! We had a room with a large veranda and had cocktails with our friends one night on the veranda. We also had dinner there and the food was good. The rooms were clean and simple but the whole hotel is spectacular in that it is built into the hill, two cable cars to get to the room. A great place to stay and take pictures.

Decent hotel with some drawbacks

Posted 18-Sep-2016
Pros: The view from both levels is amazing and from the upper level room we had was spectacular. The hotel has wi-fi which worked flawlessly on both levels
Cons: The hotel should make it clear, during the reservation process, that a selected room will involve the outdoor elevators and stairs and the lack of hel
Location: The hotel is about a mile from the main square. Most of that distance is rather level but approaching the hotel is a serious uphill climb.
This hotel is about a mile out of town. The front desk, the restaurant and some rooms are well above street level. Other rooms, including our room, are well above that, with access provided by two outdoor elevators that ride tracks up and down. The first elevator goes up a few stories, then a second elevator goes up further. There is a flight of steps to reach the first elevator; these are outdoors so waiting for this elevator might be in the rain. There is a fifty foot walk from the first to the second elevator, also outdoors. There is a short walk from the second elevator to the upper building entrance. At that point, there were two flights of outdoor stairs down to our room. We had two large bags that had to be carried up and down the stairs and no hotel help is available.

A different hotel ecperience

Posted 17-Aug-2016
Pros: See above
Cons: Breakfast was perhaps a little basic, a dinner menu not very appealing - however both provided fare value for money - views over Lake Como outstandIng
Location: Explore Lake Como area, Bellagio etc
This was our second visit to this rather unusual, quirky hotel, previously a Hermitage. We would certainly recommend a visit for the unusual funicular transport to the simple but clean bedrooms, and would strongly recommend booking a room on the top floor, if you should so fortunate enough to get one. (We stayed previously in bedroom named Varenna - brilliant with suburb views overlooking Lake Como. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Fantastic hotel with spectacular view

Posted 09-Aug-2016
Hotel just a 10 minute walk from Varenna town (20 minutes from train station when arrived). Spectacular views as had superior double room so used the great lift up the hill side. 4th floor terrace has spectacular views of the beautiful lake which can be used to relax on. Breakfast is great with lots of choice of a cold breakfast. Staff very friendly. Walk to the castle begins near the hotel so extremely useful. Shower very powerful. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful location

We stayed in the tower room which was a magical adventure. Very beautiful view and unique accessibility. We would advise caution on drive to the parking lot! Be ready for hill climbs!
