Don't stay here.

I wasn't even able to stay at this hotel because when I arrived, the hotel said they had double booked me. They were rude and unwilling to help me sort it out. Thankfully, I was able to call Expedia and they arranged for me to stay elsewhere during my trip. The Milkwood Mansion is completely unorganized and the management is very unpleasant to deal with. I would not recommend it.

Nice house, lovely room, service needs attention

We had a comfortable stay. Milkwood Mansion is a lovely house situated in a upmarket suburb close to shopping malls and in close proximity to the beach. It is a stone throw to central Durban. There is a beautiful distant view of the ocean from the balcony. The room was suitable for a family with two queen beds. However, more attention needed to be paid to detail. It seemed as though the room hadn't been properly cleaned. The toilet roll was not replenished nor was there soap, bath floor towel, etc in the bathroom. Towels and hand lotion was provided and changed daily but on one of the days two of the four towels looked dirty. There were no floor mats in the bedroom either. Even after discussing these matters with the owner, not much was done to rectify the situation. It is a beautiful house. Just needs for the owners to pay attention to detail and the finer aspects within the service industry. Not able to comment on breakfast since we went out for breakfast daily.

Einfaches aber sauberes Hotel in ruhiger Lage. Zu Fuss 20 Minuten vom Strand entfernt. Zu Fuss 30 Minuten in das Umhlanga-Zentrum. Für Fahrten nach Durban und Umgebung Mietwagen nötig.

Weekend away at Milkwood Mansion

My wife and I stayed over for 2 nights. The room was clean, apart from the shower which could have been a little cleaner in the nooks and the bottom frame of the door. The water heaters (heat pumps) are quite noisy. All in all the B&B was relaxed and friendly and good value for money. My rating is about a 2.5 to 3 star.

Comfortable and child friendly accommodation

We received a wonderful warm welcome from Elaine. The rooms were spacious with a beautiful view of the Ocean and a large balcony to sit and relax. The beds were comfortable and the rooms well maintained. The breakfast was wonderful combined with excellent service. I would highly recommend this establishment.

Disappointed regular traveller.

Although the staff was friendly and warm, the rooms left much to be desired. No soap, no hand towels, no bath mats,no coffee/tea in room, very hard and uncomfortable bed, cheap bedding,both bedside lamps not working, sticky floor tiles and no water/drinking glasses in rooms. On the groundfloor it is also very noisy. This was not a very pleasant experience. Great potential but in need of a wake up call. Probably why the rooms were all unoccupied.

Brief stay in Umhlanga Rocks

Perfect place to stay that is relatively near King Shaka airport. For me, it was a perfect place to finish up a deadline in a quiet neighborhood and then be able to walk to a coffee shop about a mile away in the morning. It's spacious! The breakfast is delicious!

Needs some finishing touches

The owners of the Milkwood Mansions are a lovely young couple trying hard to build their business which has great potential. It just needs some finishing touches - simple things like comfortable pillows on the bed, a bath mat to stop the water going everywhere when you open the shower doors, a glass per person to use. Although one has access to their kitchen facilities, it would be good to have somewhere in the room to store cold drink etc. A kettle would be nice too otherwise one has to get dressed to go and make an early morning cuppa. My main criticism is how noisy it is. I was woken one morning at 4 am by someone having a shower in the room next to mine. The plumbing makes a considerable noise. Also they set the breakfast tables REALLY early for the 6.30 to 8.30 am breakfast. The noise of china etc being put on tables at just after 5 am is not a sound you want to be woken up to when on holiday. Finally they have a lovely pool. Would be good if it had some lounge chairs beside it so one could enjoy the pool and garden.

Welcoming haven in the hills overlooking Umhlanga

Small 8 room guest house in a mansion like home. Modern clean welcoming and delightful. Puts hotels in the shade! Lovely swimming pool, gourmet breakfast. You need a car if you are staying here as it is a long walk to the beach and even to the shopping mall. But besides this it is just like living in luxurious suburbia.

wish we stayed longer

we used this guest house as a one night stop when flying into Durban and then heading north to Hluhluwe. We did not arrive until 10pm and left next morning. It is a beautiful very modern style home in a upscale residential neighbourhood. We were greet by the owner and her husband and made to feel very welcome. Breakfast cooked by Nellie was excellent. Where it is situated and its own grounds were very beautiful and only 10 minutes from the airport and easy to find using google maps directions. We would certainly stay there again when we return to Durban
