The house is beautiful and really shows the thought that has gone into making your time here extra special !!! Alison and Brian have really made it a home from home and all your needs are catered for once you get there. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and to an exceptionally high standard. The information Alison provided us with before we went was great and made sure we didn't miss out on what the area has to offer. Lots of lovely walks straight from the cottage and lake Windermere only a short walk away. There is everything you need for a comfortable stay. Lots of lovely walks nearby and the Bobbin Mill is definitely worth a visit. The spa that features heavily in its marketing is quite a drive away and pretty dated. We only went once and it isn’t really a great addition to the property. No pubs or restaurants in very easy walking distance as you have to walk on the roads. Lots of instructions and rules taped up on the walls. ##### Nicola W. Woodside is in a perfect location to get out and about, it's short car journey to Lakeside to catch the ferry, it's has excellent walks (High Dam is beautiful). Also nearby to pubs and restaurants. The actual accomodation is really well presented, decor is very tastefully done, everything you could need in the kitchen and more. We also found all the "tourist" information extremely useful and used it to go to Kendal swimming, Horse Riding on a really lovely estate trek. A very well equipped property, clean and charming. Although dogs allowed, there was no evidence of ‘dogginess’ other than the bowl! Always a slight concern when booking as a non dog owner. From the time of booking the owners input was excellent with good recommendations of places to visit and local walks. It was good that you could walk to Lakeside and access the boats and train without needing a car. However, Lakeside hotel is quite expensive and there are far better pubs and eateries further afield. The walk to High Dam was well worth it for the scenery and views. The only slight disappointment was that the outside space at the cottage does not receive the late afternoon and early evening sunshine, as this space is the thoroughfare for the end cottage. There is an area at the back of the cottage where you park your cars that has a patio with table and chairs, but in October it didnt get the sun. When you walk out of the front door there is a paved strip that goes along the outside of the house and joins two other cottages, its wide enough to put a couple of benches on (but this isnt allowed). You then have a gravel area which is about two car widths which you cross to get to the very overgrown area of the garden. Next door cottage has a strip of garden too that is a bit more open. The night before we went I got information that said we were not to put chairs outside of the front door and sit there as the cottage did not own this land and there had been complaints if holiday makers did this. It was a shame because this area of the cottage got the sun during the day and it would have been nice to be able to sit somewhere in the sun. There were as far as we could make out 6 houses/cottages in this complex, with the gravel area in front of our cottage being the drive way to a couple of houses. Inside the cottage it was brilliant, everywhere was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the showers excellent. It also has a downstairs toilet which was very useful. The kitchen was well equipped and the oven and hob were excellent. The internet speed was the best yet in a rented cottage. It did smell a bit of dogs in the front room when we had the log fire lit. The sofas were comfortable for 4 of us. The telly was a good size too, with Sky available. They provided two logs for the first evening and kindling. The area is amazing, and we all enjoyed our walks especially to the water falls. I loved the cottage inside, but was really disappointed about the outside. ##### Fiona L. Location made access to beautiful walks easy, took part in paddle boarding and kyaking at Bowness on Windermere, also gorge scrambling at Coniston, two really good fun days out. Woodside Cottage is cosy and very comfortable with plenty of room for six of us and a dog. There is everything you would need in the kitchen and lots of books and games for the children and a wealth of information on the area. We did many of the local walks (the dog was walked to High Dam morning and evening and we felt she made it her own). We scrambled up to Gummer’s How and up Hoad Hill in Ulverston and walked the canal there. Bowness, Ambleside, Hawkshead and many more places - lots of suggestions for local walks in the cottage. Beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept very well. Everything was clean and to a high standard and Alison and Brian were very helpful.
