Slice of Route 66

Posted 29-Aug-2017
Great stay at The Campbell Hotel. The staff was extremely helpful and very welcoming. Wish we had more time to spend and explore, but will definitely pass through Tulsa again and The Campbell Hotel will be our stop. Accommodations are plush and comfortable, couldn't ask for more from this great boutique hotel.

Glad we were leaving.

Pros: The hotel was obviously old and was renovated and offered something other than the chain hotels.
Cons: The mattress was old and should be replaced.
Location: We only went to the hospital which is why we were there.
The first night was fun but the second night was a nightmare. My wife ordered a glass of wine and the bartender told her she was shaking and told her that he was going to give her some water. I asked him why and he quickly responded she asked for it which she didn't. If this had been parkinson's or some other physical ailment, it was not his digression to say something. If she had been slurring or staggering or some other obvious sign of drinking too much then I understand. It was her second drink. Anyways we moved to the restaurant and had some drinks there after visiting with her daughter. We were tired as we were there visiting our granddaughter who is in NICU so we went to sleep. A little after midnight I hear a knock on the door. It was the manager saying they had reports that we were smoking in the room. My wife had put a towel under the 1 inch gap of the door to the hallway. They assumed we were blocking the smoke. The manager came into the room and immediately knew it wasn't us smoking. Obviously I couldn't go back to sleep so I went downstairs and there was the bartender we had problems with the manager. I never heard any other doors being knocked on and waking up anybody else. They comped 1 nights stay but even that wasn't worth the aggravation and frustration we went through.

Jimmy, we are so sorry for the misunderstanding about the smoke being reported coming from your room. The gentlemen that came up to your room was the night auditor and he stated that another guest had reported the smoke was coming from your room. Once he contacted the manager is when we comped your room. Again our apologies and hope that your granddaughter gets to go home soon.

Nice boutique hotel in a historic building. The best place possible if your visiting anyone at University of Tulsa.

What a cool place!

It's a unique, cute, historic hotel. The outside of the building is ugly, but it's historically protected, so they can't change it. Two bars, well stocked, friendly bartender.

Hotel interior was great. Awesome small bar and bar staff. Attached restaurant had a real breakfast--very substantial and well prepared. I probably should have just had dinner there, too. Exterior is pretty bland and the surrounding restaurants/bars are non-existent, the closest plaza with restaurants is downright filthy (my standards are pretty low, BTW). Close proximity to U of Tulsa was the only redeeming factor. For good restaurants you have a long walk (1.5 miles) or have to drive/uber.

Expected more for the price

I expected more from this hotel. The interior is old and historic which really neat but the cleanliness of the room and bathroom takes away from the overall experience. I expected a bit more comfort though. No place to sit in the room or put your bags, and the bathroom didn't have any vanity area either. The complimentary breakfast at Maxwell's was very pleasant though and the front desk people very courteous and friendly. I don't think I will stay at this hotel again. There are much better choices out there for significantly less.

Might stay again

Great location away from downtown, but still close to a lot of things. A little quirky hotel from the 20's that has been refurbished, and the rooms are a little high for what you get. Great value and service at the restaurant, Maxwell's, and in the bar. Ample parking. Our room was quiet. Staff very helpful, friendly, and easy-going - with one exception. Check in is at 3 pm and do not try to check in at 2 pm. We understand rules, but most places would have let us check-in if our room was ready. The desk clerk didn't even bother to check - it was a polite "check-in is not until 3 pm, but you can relax in our bar or restaurant or perhaps I could book you a massage while you wait" from her. Also, the webpage said shuttle available for a fee, said nothing about making a reservation for it. We were in town for a concert, so I asked the same desk clerk about it. I was told that it was out of order, but she offered to arrange a cab or uber to take us...which had I notified them 24 hours in advance, the hotel would have comp it since the shuttle was not running. OK..how was I suppose to know the shuttle was down? This may be snippy on my part, but the desk clerks are often the first impression of the hotel that guests receive. Luckily, everyone else at the hotel made our stay very pleasant.

Breakfast was wonderful. I was concerned when we arrived about safety. History of the hotel was interesting. Beautiful building. Wished we had been closer to downtown.
