This incredible site is a U.S. National Historic Landmark, and the rich history of this place is something that every school should be teaching our youth. 👇🏽 Hidden away in the marshes of St. Augustine is one of the most important sites in American history: the first free community of ex-slaves, founded in 1738 and called Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose or Fort Mose (pronounced Moh-Say). Fort Mose played an extremely important role in the development of colonial North America. 👇🏽 As early as 1687, the Spanish government had begun to offer asylum to slaves who managed to escape from British colonies (the first Underground Railroad ran SOUTH to Florida from the colonies!). In 1693, the Spanish Crown officially proclaimed that runaways would find freedom in Florida, in return for converting to Catholicism and a term for men of four years' military service to the Crown. In effect, Spain created a maroon settlement in Florida as a front-line defense against English attacks from the north. I didn’t even wanna leave. The house was cozy and quiet. They had a pirate hunt around the whole house that I had to do. The beds was comfy as if I was sleeping on cloud 9\. The property was clean and full of fun surprises. The property owner goes the extra mile to accommodate and make you feel like family in for a visit. Close to local attractions and food delivery for exhausted kiddos at the end of a bust day is fast. We played the scavenger hunt and video game, found toys in the closet, and had a fireside evening with hot dogs s'mores and football. If I ever come back to St. Augustine, I would try to stay here. :) ##### Teresa B. We had 2 families, with 4 boys total, and they were in pirate heaven! The hosts were so thoughtful either very detail in the house. Everything was fully stocked, including toys/games, cooking items/dishes, and even firewood. We didn’t even want to leave the house! The boys were entertained inside and outside. The scavenger hunt is such a great idea. And the arcade was a hit! Beds were comfortable and every inch of the place was so clean! Extra pillows and blankets for every room. Will recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in/around St Augustine. We made amazing memories here! ##### Stephanie C. Great location! This home was perfect in every way! The Airport is very close to this home but you wouldn’t know it! It was so quiet at night and there is Doordash that delivers. You are just outside of downtown and away from the hustle and bustle of things. The master bed was super soft and comfortable. Everything was clean and we loved all the “Extras” that were left in the treasure box for us. We enjoyed our time with Davy Bones as well! He was quite the character to have around every day when we returned from our downtown ventures. The atmosphere of the house just deepened our love for the location even more. There is a train that runs often across the Main Street of the house but it really isn’t a bother. Most people are use to a little outside noise and kids are definitely louder. :) The coffee bar is fully stocked! Even though I wasn’t there long enough this time to use it, I’m sure my next stay will result in daily use. There’s hot cocoa pods and tea packets in the drawer and plenty of coffee pods and creamer. They were really gracious with the amenities. There wasn’t much that we really needed to bring with us. They had usb ports built into the alarm clock that also supplied sleep sounds. I loved this! This is always something I miss when I’m traveling. There is plenty of parking also. The communication after we arrived was amazing. They were very quick to respond to our questions. This really is a charming home in a great location. There’s no need to look any further. We will definitely be coming back! The pictures posted are also accurate. We hated to leave so soon…there never seems to be enough time and my man is hard to please. He was like a kid in a candy store when we arrived. All giggles! Again…go ahead and book it!
