Lovely countryside setting along very narrow lanes. Very friendly and efficient staff. Superb cuisine food and definitely not “pub grub” Lack of clientele defused the atmosphere somewhat but still saw the ambiance of cosy fireside surrounding. Not so good was the lack of an opening window in the Trent Barrow room. Presume the 3 rooms facing the gardens were previously barns. They were nicely converted but with only French doors there was no other secure ways to ventilate the room. This could also have been the reason for a strong animal smell in the room, presumably from a dog. It would be helpful if all ‘Pet-welcome’ hotels restricted the pets and owners to specific rooms and notify new guests that the room has been used by dogs. Also, the room we had was only about half the size of those featured on the website and not that comfortable had we been staying more than one night. I would recommend the Rose and Crown but request a different room next time.
