No hot water

Posted 05-Apr-2018
We had no hot water and they sent 3 people up. Couldn’t fix it then wanted me to go to another room just to shower. They didn’t seem to care . I stayed at hotel presidente last time. It’s right across the street and much nicer.

Wonderful location

Pros: Shower, plenty of hot water, safe, walking distance to everything. There was also a bank close by to exchange money - good rate.
Cons: give enough towels to match the # of guests so we don't have to ask for extra.
This hotel was functional, clean, and directly on the main avenue of the city. The front desk staff were very helpful in English and in Spanish and they easily arranged for transportation for us to see La Paz Waterfall gardens on our second day. Breakfast was included - in addition to gallo pinto and platanos they had a lot of fresh fruit, fresh breads/jams, eggs, and pancakes. My kids were surprised that the milk to go with the cereal was warm. We saw the National Museum and the Mercado Central (both within walking distance of the hotel). Several supermarkets were close to the hotel as well. Wifi was strong in the room and the shower was excellent. This is not a fancy place but the utility was just what we needed. It felt safe with lots of staff and security at the entrance to the main avenue. I think there was a party/wedding our second night there and there was a lot of stomping and drumming but they wrapped up around 8 pm so it wasn't a big deal.

Good location to do a little walking in San Jose.

Posted 20-Mar-2018
We did a little walking in the centre if San Jose during the day and the evening. It was safe and interesting to see the city life. Wish we had longer to take in some of the near by museums and sights.

Terrible area

If you don't get the newly renovated rooms , the room is disgusting and tiny . A/c won't work very well either .

Great location in heart of downtown San Jose

Lovely hotel in San Jose. We made arrangements for pickup from airport for approx 30 US. Easy walking distance to all the sights. Our room included the delicious breakfast Buffett which was huge and varied. This was a great place to stay and would recommend it .

One night in downtown San Jose

Posted 19-Feb-2018
Pros: Clean, spacious room
Cons: street access to check in.
Location: Near downtown museums and sites.
My wife and I spent one night here while waiting for a flight home. We were looking to get a feel for downtown and not just stay in a suburban chain. Hotel is definitely not your cookie cutter US chain hotel. It is in the heart of downtown, close to the Plaza and the pedestrian mall and all the activity you would expect with this sort of location. One local person described the area as "sexy, but not in a good way". Another warned to make sure I kept my wallet in my front pocket. The drop off from the cab at the hotel was odd, as there is no real ready access from the street. We had to walk in through a parking garage, and got accosted by a street beggar along the way. Our cab driver was very nice and helpful, and the hotel staff were efficient but a bit stiff and impersonal. Don't expect everyone to speak fluent English or to be able to make change for US dollars. But the Costa Rican people we talked with were very cordial and the overall environment downtown was friendly with lots of families walking around. The hotel room itself was spacious and clean and surprisingly quiet given it is on a busy street and only 6 floors tall. The hotel restaurant was nothing special for dinner, and the complimentary breakfast was perfectly serviceable but again nothing special. Overall, it was a fair price (less than half of the big name US chains) for what we got.

Nice location and convenient price.

This is one of the first hotels in San José and its location, price and facilities are all right. Downtown SJO is not nice, but if You are looking for a good acommodation in terms of location, this is the one. The best thing is the kindness of the hotel's employees.
