needs a lot of love

Posted 18-Jan-2016
Pros: The beach
Cons: Everything--I am glad I was only there for a short time. ..
Location: There was golf down the street and of course the beach.
The room size was okay, but the room was seriously outdated. The food was not that great--but the beach was beautiful and close by. The service was okay unless you needed something-like the remote to your t.v. an iron (did not provide ironing board), or towels. Of course the staff provided these items-but we had to walk up and down three flights of stairs a few times. For the most part the staff was friendly, but their English was as about as good as my Spanish so that created a bit of a barrier. Hotel is severely outdated. I would rate it a 3.

Worst Hotel Ever

Posted 15-Jan-2016
Cons: The cleanliness, the food, staff friendliness, basically everything
Location: Not much to do except go on excersions or lay at the beach. No restauants or casinos close by.
We asked to change rooms when we arrived since the one they gave us had a bad odor and was very old and out dated. Our second room had a broken bed and we had to wait until the next day to have it changed. We did ask for an updated room but were told that the resort was full. There was only 100-175 people at the resort and the resort has 418 rooms. The food was the worst I have ever had. It was cold and what wasn't used at lunch was put into a salad for supper. We did not know what half of the food was. I had a bite of beef one night and it smelled of feces. We never ate beef again. Breakfast was the same food for 7 days, never having bacon, only dried out buns and bread, something that looked like spam and potatoes. The only juice as orange juice which was a powder that was very diluted. When we expressed our concerns to the staff they did not care. This was the worst place we have ever stayed at and would not recommend it to anyone. The pool was soo murky you couldn't see the bottom. The grounds were unkept. We were told by some local people that the resort did not even pay their staff's wages.

Better than expected!

Posted 06-Jan-2016
Pros: safety. if the room would have hot water all the time instead of hit or miss, i woukld have giving it a 5 on room comfort.
Cons: wifi and hot water.
Location: we did The Teleferico (skyline) thats nearby and the view from upthere is breathtaking!
of course, there are thing that can be improved like the WIFI just because the Kids complained about it all the time. As for me and my wife, it was just what we need it. Beach, Good Food and a very safe area.

La plage est formidable. Le reste est un désastre.

Posted 30-Dec-2015
Pros: La plage

It could be a little bit more nice structuspeaking

I didn't like the infrastructure as I mention above. It's not what you see on Internet not the same thing. The food was very good and the workers were very professional and always making sure that you had a good time.

Can be barely called a Hotel, more like a motel

Posted 20-Dec-2015
Pros: The closeness to the city
Cons: Clean: Clean the rooms, clean the dining área, serve aceptable food.
I am glad I only booked one night at this hotel. There is no hot wáter, the rooms are moldy and my allergy skyrocketed because of all the dust. We were in a suite and we only had one towel, which was all torned, glad i brought my own towels. Awful hotel, never again.

Very nice hotel with a lot of potential

Posted 08-Dec-2015
Pros: Incredibly friendly staff. The entertainment crew were the best I have ever had. The hotel was clean and generally well maintained
Cons: A continued effort to improve the quality and variety of the food. Give English classes to the staff.
Location: Puerto Plata, right on the Atlantic Ocean, many local historical sites nearby and a short hop into the city.
I have stayed at Celuisma a few times, on our arrival they were changing ownership to Beach House Playa Dorada. I am hoping the change of ownership will provide the impetus to improve where it is necessary. The hotel staff for the most part are probably the friendliest I have ever encountered anywhere. The room was clean albeit dated. Old style 15 inch TV and the like. Our air conditioner leaked all over the floor when it ran, but no harm done. Our second day there the hot water went out and it took a day and a half to repair. Our biggest complaint had to do with the food. We tried to be understanding as the hotel was almost completely empty while we were there, but the first three days the food was stone cold and there was pretty much no variety. If you dont like Dominican cuisine you would have been very disappointed. It seemed like around midweek a boss arrived and very quickly the quality of the food improved a lot. If you dont speak any Spanish this hotel could be a bit of a challenge. Spanish is my second language so it was fine for me, but our granddaughter came with us and she doesnt speak Spanish and she had difficulty communicating with many of the staff.

wasted my money

Posted 23-Nov-2015
Pros: the staff was friendly
Cons: a lot
Location: not sure. never looked. was a golf course up the road from the hotel, but already spent to much money on the hotel
staff was very friendly. was disappointing with everything else. cockroaches and centipedes in my room the first night. when asked about switching rooms i was asked to return in the afternoon to see what could be done. shower in the room had a nice big window in it, allowing anyone in the next building to have a great view of my cleanliness. food was disappointing for variety, and did not really enjoy watching the birds fly in and eat off the same buffet. especially when they don't really do anything about it but just continue to serve the same food to the next person. the beach was nice. no bathrooms near by and not sure what places belonged to the hotel as there was never any given information or map of the facility. so i slept good, enjoyed the odd drink and when the cable tv worked. enjoyed that aswell
