Avoid
I cannot reconcile my experience with the ratings given to this hotel. Our stay was so bad that we checked out the morning after arrival.
The exterior and the position of the hotel is really nice: Right on the square of the old town, charming, ivy-covered walls, all looks great. Staying there, though, is a different matter...
We arrived around 11pm; one hour later than expected (thanks Easyjet!) to a terse, unsmiling welcome bordering on rude. We climbed several flights of stairs with our cases and were shown to a room that was not much wider than a corridor - with two single beds. The room was clean but reminiscent of a youth hostel, not a hotel.
Breakfast was a basic affair; pastries, yogurts and coffee/tea.The hotel generally is is quirky and could be quite charming but is looking very tired in parts.
When we explained to the proprietor the next day that we would have to check out early, he expressed no surprise, no apology and no offer of a refund. He did explain (in terms that made no sense) that they did try to provide a double bed but because our arrival was delayed they somehow couldn't do that.
Sorry that the experience was very unpleasant and that I would avoid at all costs staying at this hotel. Was went to the Royal Sporting hotel instead and were extremely well looked after..
