Overall pleased with hostel.
The bunk matresses were comfortable and there was a reasonable amount of room around the bunks. The room for 6 had a sink with shelf and light above. Each bunk had its own light. In my recent experience of hostels each person had a locker/underbunk cage that could be padlocked...there was nothing here but fortunately I was able to padlock my bag
3 showers were on the landing outside the door with a toilet adjacent. All were very clean.
The optional breakfast looked good and there was a nightly 2 course meal for £9.95. I was self catering my breakfast. Plenty of fridge space and storage for your food. Plenty of crockery and cutlery BUT limited cooking utensils ie pans etc. Could be a problem if others cooking too. Only 1 egg cup!
There is a good sized lounge with sofas and tub chairs. There is a TV with a dvd player.
The staff were very helpful and provided maps and info on Portland. A door code is provided so you can access the hostel at any time.
Pros: Easily reached from Weymouth or Dorchester. Good bus service from Weymouth into early hours of morning.
Cons: More pans etc for self catering. Larger mugs would be nice...small cups provided.
Location: Good base to explore west Dorset from. Portland has interesting sites to visit - lighthouse, sculpture park, old forts, coastal path, plants & bird
