Welcoming, friendly and courteous staff- the receptionist was very attentive and helpful. Lovely large room and en-suite bathroom on first floor. We took the entire room of 7 beds for 3 people and spread out! Comfortable beds, clean bed linen and spotlessly clean bathroom with lashings of hot water. Only issue was the shower head had not been descaled in sometime so the water pressure and jets were not great but worked ok. Very quiet room with lovely views over the harbour. Great cafetière coffee and chic croissants for breakfast and ample private onsite parking for at least 10 cars. Great location and great value!

My stay at the yha on portland was fantastic, the local area is surrounded by so much beauttiful scenary.. The hostel itself was clean and tidy and the staff were very attentive to your needs.. Overall for £13 for a bed on a 6person dorm its a fantastic deal not to be missed out on.. There are self catering faciities available and also a chef if you decided you dont want to cook yoursef..

    Wonderful location

Overall pleased with hostel. The bunk matresses were comfortable and there was a reasonable amount of room around the bunks. The room for 6 had a sink with shelf and light above. Each bunk had its own light. In my recent experience of hostels each person had a locker/underbunk cage that could be padlocked...there was nothing here but fortunately I was able to padlock my bag 3 showers were on the landing outside the door with a toilet adjacent. All were very clean. The optional breakfast looked good and there was a nightly 2 course meal for £9.95. I was self catering my breakfast. Plenty of fridge space and storage for your food. Plenty of crockery and cutlery BUT limited cooking utensils ie pans etc. Could be a problem if others cooking too. Only 1 egg cup! There is a good sized lounge with sofas and tub chairs. There is a TV with a dvd player. The staff were very helpful and provided maps and info on Portland. A door code is provided so you can access the hostel at any time.

Pros: Easily reached from Weymouth or Dorchester. Good bus service from Weymouth into early hours of morning.

Cons: More pans etc for self catering. Larger mugs would be nice...small cups provided.

Location: Good base to explore west Dorset from. Portland has interesting sites to visit - lighthouse, sculpture park, old forts, coastal path, plants & bird

Exceptional clean and comfortable budget hostel

Stayed for one night with three people in a four-person bunk bed room with a sink. Showers and toilets were in the hall. Everything was small but perfectly clean and comfortable. There were several families staying, and some campers in the backyard. The lady at the desk was very helpful in recommending places to eat and what to see and do in Portland. We also did laundry. Location of the hostel was ok - about a 10 minute walk to any amenities. We just missed cooked breakfast but it looked very good! For the price this hostel was an excellent value.
