  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California. Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home. For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild. If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud. Spring Break PNW Fun

Loved staying at this great location! Spacious, quiet, clean, stocked kitchen, and great location! Had minor issues with one of the shower heads, but the property manager was very quick to respond and rectify without impacting our stay. We would 100% stay here again.

Family Friendly and functional space. I appreciated the hangout space for teens downstairs and the office for my brother in law to step away for a bit. The patio with open forest was surreal and two bedrooms had windows to nothing but nature. The master bedroom was beautiful and comfortable. I want that quilt.

Amazing place, amazing amenities, perfect location

We discovered the Catalina house when we were heading to Newberg for a softball tournament. The tourney ended early, so we had loads of time to explore Beaverton, Tigard and Portland. The house is close to everything, it was spacious, immaculate, and included a welcome package. Plus, it was set up perfectly for our two dogs. Wonderful hosts. We’ll be back!!

This is a great place to stay

Extremely well appointed. Has everything you'll need and then some. The attention to detail is extraordinary. We travel a lot, and you won't find a better deal than this anywhere. Walk to grocery shopping (a really nice, upscale market) and eating venues on a lake! Close to Costco and Natural Grocers. Everything you need for cooking. Hight tech!
