Pros: Location and staff.
Location: Very close to the city centre and in a beautiful spot near Magdalen College. Easy walking for all areas of Oxford.
Except for a leaking boiler, no problems. Beautiful old building in a beautiful part of Oxford.

Rooms above Pub

Posted 02-Jun-2015
Room was clean but could use some major work. Bathroom had no water pressure and no hot water in the shower. we also did not realize it was above a pub which would have been great if we didn't want to sleep.

ideal for city centre, but noisy position..

Posted 26-May-2015
Pros: easy to walk into city centre.
Cons: Double glaze the windows.
Location: restaurants, pubs nearby.Easy walk into centre for shops, theatre, museums and parks
Convenient position, but there were lots of pubs and bars nearby and when they all turned out at 11 0'clock,the noise went on until well after midnight. Also, the pub had loud music on until late our first night, and we couldnt sleep.

Shabby chic

If you are not looking for lots of comfort or luxury this is an adequate hotel/inn. It is quaint and old with lots of charm. I am not particularly tall but could not stand under the shower in the bath tub as the ceiling was so low. It was clean and tidy and well-appointed for the centre of Oxford.

Disappointment in Oxford

Posted 20-Apr-2015 on Hotels
I've been to Oxford and to England many times. One has to recognize that old English hotels and B&Bs are different than American Hotels. But this Hotel was neither clean nor well-maintained. One example: the 3-bulb light fixture in the middle of the room had two bulbs burned out, one globe missing, with cob webs and dust covering it. The bathroom vanity mirror was missing one of two mirrored doors. The hot water was almost nonexistent, and the shower could not be turned off to stop the dripping. The Hotel has a pretty good location (just east of Magdalen Bridge) making for an easy walk into the center of the City. But I would never stay there again, especially at the outrageous price.

Good but never take room 1 or first floor rooms.

Just would like to say that our first night was not nice, so noisy, room 1 is the worst as you can here everything from the bar and outside. Then I asked to be moved and room 8 was perfect.

Ye Olde Black Horse

Posted 28-Feb-2015 on Hotels
a nice hotel above a busy ( but not noisy) and friendly local pub. A very good breakfast, though service was a bit slow if you were in a hurry as the cook was serving and taking orders. Staff were friendly and helpful and the place has great atmosphere and is not far from the town centre, on bus routes and many passing taxis are available.
