Good. But there is a bar/pub in the ground floor.

Quaint accommodations in a very old building.

Posted 13-Oct-2016
Pros: Comfortable room with the convenient pub on the ground floor.
Cons: Narrow stairway to second floor was difficult the maneuver with luggage.
Location: Location was very good, close to the city center.
Very comfortable and clean rooms with very nice service. The ground floor pub was a bonus. Free breakfast every morning was nice. The very old building was oozing with character.

Nice place in a slightly odd pub

Posted 08-Oct-2016 on Hotels
Nice place in a slightly odd pub. The rooms are separate from the pub so no noise at all. Owners really nice too. Great, if you are having a lads night out and just need a convenient place to lay your head

Located a stones's throw away from Magdalene College. Although its 4* rated its more like a pub with rooms. Centrally located with free parking, satellite TV, clean rooms in an old historic public house and complimentary full English breakfast. Its well priced taking this into account although it could do with a make over.

OK for an overnight

Posted 07-Jul-2016 on Hotels
Booked one overnight at this pub hotel at the last minute. The building is old and interesting but you have to watch your head on low beams and ceilings. The room on the second floor was very small and cramped but adequate. Wouldn't like to stay at weekends as the pub below would be very noisy.

Dont stay here

Posted 30-Jun-2016 on Hotels
The staff were lovely but the accommodation was awful. There was a strong smell of a backed up toilet in the hallway that made it to my room. The wifi would not work and there was little to no hot water for a shower in the morning. I would not recommend this hotel (and that is without considering the extortionate price)

Old Black Horse - June 2016

Posted 21-Jun-2016 on Hotels
I enjoyed the stay very much. The Thursday night quiz night in the pub was great fun. Noise from the pub was minimal in the rooms. The building is an old coaching in so tall people need to watch their head on low beams and doorways. Friendly welcoming service and wonderful position for public transport and walking distance to Oxford centre and shops and sightseeing. Will stay there again.

Great location

Great location with a secure car park. Easy to get to. Easy walk into Oxford, but lots of pubs and eating places on the doorstep. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was cosy, clean and comfortable.

Spelunking adventure above a tavern - get Room #8!

Posted 31-May-2016 on Hotels
The number one pro of the place is its proximity to Oxford campus and buses to Heathrow/London, and second, if you want a fun Indiana Jones caving adventure in a hobbit's attic! On the neg side, one has to get over the fact the rooms are basically above an old tavern that is a typical watering hole, which we were forced to experience checking at midnight surrounded by heavily drunk singing patrons and asked to stand among them for 10 minutes with all our airport luggage until the bartenders finished serving drinks to them. Then there is the spelunking with our luggage through attic crawl spaces perfectly sized for hobbits, bending over like Quasimodo and other contortions to reach our room deep in the belly of the tavern's attic cavern (ask for Room #8 if you want a wonderful caving adventure!). that said, the room was cozy. Sufficient if you're a single person needing a place for the night, but AWESOME if you want to go spelunking above an English tavern with the giggles! We had a blast.

Friendly staff, but basic accommodation

Posted 29-May-2016
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Decor could be updated.
Location: Pubs, curry houses etc.
Centrally placed, this is an old pub in the town, with basic accommodation as you would expect. The staff were friendly and it was an experience, a change from the standard business hotel. Give it a shot if you want something that is authentic but not new
