Michelle is an excellent host and is very responsive to any questions. She has a wealth of knowledge about the area. The cabin is pristine and packed with all the essentials. We have stayed at many properties that have the “bare minimum.” Not so with this river cabin. Michelle has thought of everything. Coffee, creamer, laundry detergent, paper towels, body wash, shampoo, conditioner. Even a first aid kit! The property is only a quick 20 minute ATV ride along country roads to the Wolf Pen Gap area. We had a blast fishing and swimming in the many creeks and rivers in the area. The screened in porch would be great to sit in, when the weather is cool enough. It is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with all your basics, including coffee and coffee pot :). The property owners were super sweet and easily available to take care of any needs that arose. Check in and check out was easy, as well. The kids had a great time exploring and fishing. Our 5 year old loved fishing and playing in the river. The deck is so nice for the mornings and evenings after a long day! The only reason I rated 4 stars is because the water in the house smelled like sewer. When we arrived Michelle and Travis were finishing yard work. It was a treat to meet the owners. They were both so down to earth and a pleasure to talk to. We got some history of the property and how they acquired it. The cabin is very spacious and homey. A group of 8 could stay there easily. The deck overlooks the river and was so relaxing. A wooden bench at the river bank was the perfect spot to just chill. The river was our favorite. The river was low according to local folks. We walked the river, swam in it and floated down it. It is rock based and never got above our waist. Some spots were only ankle deep. Mena is about 11 miles east of the property and has grocery stores and your normal fast food places. We brought 2 coolers with food, water, etc and glad we did because once we got there we never wanted to leave. It's truly a outdoor experience. Back to nature...cows mooing in the distance, birds chirping, fox squirrels, and the best of all a visit from Jackie (the ambassador dog) she is a sweetheart. We will be back. We brought our side by side and did some riding on the back roads. The cabin was awesome! The beds were comfortable and the AC works good too. I forgot our potatoes for our steaks on Saturday night, but Mena is just 19 mins away, so I ran to town and grabbed a few. Met Travis the owner and visited with him and swapped hunting stories. Only 18 miles to town and 30 minutes from an awesome river float at the Ouachita River Haven. We played in the river directly in front of the house and grilled on the porch every day. I suggest not to take your low clearance vehicle though. My Civic made it but it was slow going bc of the gravel and tree roots. Next time we'll bring the truck.
