Excellent even for families with babies

We had a great stay in this hotel on the 1st May holiday. The hotel is now entering renovation and would be closed for some duration henceforth, but we are looking forward to going there again. The rooms are comfy, the view is GREAT, and the people are awesome. The food quality was satisfactory, has a chance for improvement. I guess when the hotel reopens again, it will be taken care of. The best thing about this hotel is location. It is very scenic and strategically placed between MahaB and Panchgani. So all points are within 5-6 km radius. Mapro garden is closeby, there is a shop closeby to buy stuff like water etc. We went with our 1.25 yr old, and had absolutely no hassle managing him. They even served fulka for him.. When it reopens as a five star hotel, I definitely recommend it!

for frequent visitors it is a wright choice. Good view. Nature lovers will like it. From back side of the hotel Lingmala forest house & forest area is just 15 minutes walk through a narrow walk bridge. One can enjoy but then no fun of market. By the way market is 5 kms. away. No problem if you have own veh.

Great view...

The hotel has a great view and best located to have cool breeze in Mahabaleshwar. However, food quality should be better. Do not expect a 5 star experience but people are freindly and ready to help. I will recommend it as against staying in a hotel in the city. Access from the main road is great. For people who would like to have a net connectivty, it is not there. The pool is great but activity room is ill equipped with one seat each of chess, carrom and table tennis only.

Best view of the valley, bathroom & laundry could be cleaner

Mahabaleshwar market is as cluttered as Bhuleshwar in Mumbai. & so are the by-lanes of Panchgani. This Hotel Surya Retreat is perfectly located between Mahabaleshwar & Panchgani. Every room faces the lush green valley & the Architect was able to achieve his/her vision with a beautiful view of the valley from every room. The Architect has designed the rooms in such a way that if you are sitting in the balcony (they have provided a couple of clean chairs with a clean coffee table), then you have complete privacy & residents of the other rooms can not see you nor you can see them, unless you step close to the railings of the spacious balcony. The room was very spacious & nothing to complain about that. Bathroom shower curtain was smelly & stained due to mold. They had probably not washed the bottom half in months. A simple wash & the whole bathroom experience would have been different. The towels & napkins while washed had a lot of stains. Again, clean towels would have made it perfect. Swimming pool is well maintained. Fitness room equipment needs repair. Everything else very clean. Breakfast, lunch & dinner had super variety. Quality was good but not comparable to Mumbai food. Red colored gravy on every oily Punjabi dish can be avoided - enough variety to go for other items. The dishes, bowls & glasses were a bit dusty & not properly cleaned. Given that there was a good flow of visitors to the Hotel, one would have thought that they would have been cleaned enough.

nJoyed the stay!

Good Side: Hotel is well situated in hills and breathtaking valley view from balcony and whispering windows from restaurant... Mid way between Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani so good deal to see both sides... Food is awesome, me and my life loved it!! Overall I nJoyed my stay and will recommend to my friends, just check if fits your budget as many does not recommend due to cost factor! Improvements: Hotel seems very old and badly needs renovation... only thing I did not like was bed bugs spray smell on the bed! I had to put perfume in order to get sleep... service is good but need to raise standards as per 3star level...
