There are Better Choices Elsewhere

Posted 29-Jul-2015
Pros: It kept me from having to camp out in a South Dakota thunderstorm.
Cons: Value for the price. Breakfast Clean the in-room coffee makers regularly (and offer Splenda or Equal sweetener for coffee Staff wasn't very helpful
Location: Not far from Mitchell (home of the Corn Palace).
I paid too much and got too little for this sad little hotel stay. Now, I have stayed at discount hotels and motels before, even on this same trip, so I am not comparing this place to a 5-star hotel. Nevertheless, I was unhappy about this hotel stay. Nothing was truly awful or horrible, yet nothing was better than adequate. Some aspect of the hotel were quite disappointing. Staff was neither rude nor truly helpful. No word at check-in as to where the room was located or where to park. Room was relatively clean, as was the bath., although dated. The big exception was the in-room coffee maker, which had a layer of gunk & debris inside that I chose to avoid rather than attempt to clean. The AC worked, but it took a while to cool the room and it was loud. The breakfast was lousy. Hardly any choices (I was traveling with my 3 kids, so choices are important). Room was way too warm and could've used a good sweeping. Tables weren't clean. No staff in sight. It appeared that someone ran to the local mini-mart, grabbed what they could get for 20 bucks, threw it in the breakfast room and disappeared. The coffee was OK.

Nice, friendly hotel

Posted 22-Jul-2015
Pros: I liked how there were no "surprises" once we arrived. Everything was as advertised.
Cons: Everything was perfect!
Location: We didn't have much time to do any activities, but there are numerous gas stations and food establishments nearby.
Although it feels like it is in the middle of nowhere, the hotel itself doesn't have that feeling.

Pros: Good staff and comfortable. The price.
Cons: Update curtains and clean and repair windows.
Location: Easy to get to and eating places near by and gas stations.
Friendly staff, and easy check in and check out. We had a very comfortable and quiet room. Curtains were worn out.

Best place in Madison

Posted 14-May-2015
Location: Being located at the edge of town just off the highway makes it easy to get into and out of the hotel.
We stay here every year, and would not stay any place else. Mike and his wife are always pleasant and very helpful. It is clean and safe. The rooms nice size and they have both smoking and non-smoking which is great for us since we don't smoke and the other couple does. It is pet friendly and breakfast is included. Thank you so much for a great place to stay.

Good location for us, right on hwy 81

Posted 23-Jun-2014
Pros: Location, next to pizza place on hwy 81.
Cons: There was never anyone at the front desk; always had to page them on the phone.
Location: Good pizza right next door. We saw a water park/park across the street.
When we arrived, we had to page for a desk clerk. Think it was a housekeeper who came to the desk. We had booked and paid through Expedia, but she tried to charge us again. She finally got someone else to help and he agreed that we had paid. The entrance to the grounds is not particularly pleasant - broken concrete driveway. The nice thing is that it sits back from the street so is quiet. The office was hot and muggy.

OK hotel if you have to stay there.

Posted 21-Jun-2014
Pros: The staff willing to help meet our needs. New TV's and cleanliness.
Cons: More comfortable pillows and better mattresses. A little more selection at the breakfast for health conscience people.
Location: Just passing through. Did not see much of the town.
For a last minute accommodation, it was OK. The staff tried to help when my key would not work and gave me a master key for the night and then went and got me a bucket of ice. It was unusual to have the manager walking around barefoot. The bed was hard and the pillows were small and uncomfortable. The room was clean but the air unit was very nosy. The choice for the free breakfast was passable. Only one real choice if you are trying to eat healthy.
