Beautiful looking hotel

Posted 01-Feb-2016
Pros: Beautiful staircase & chandeliers
Cons: More comfortable beds, better products in the bathroom & enough of them.
Location: Location good with the underground very close. The British Museum is a 'must' visit
Lack of seating in reception & bar areas. Our room hadn't been cleaned the first day after we had been out all day, we had to go to reception twice to get anything done. The secondary glazing doors didn't close properly making the room quite chilly. The bathroom door wouldn't stay closed, it was very difficult to climb into the bath for a shower because the screen wouldn't move. The bed was very uncomfortable. Generally overall very disappointing, should have been better for the price we paid.

Nedslitt hotell

Posted 01-Feb-2016
Pros: Beliggenhet

A taste of the past (ie, needs updating).

Posted 27-Jan-2016
Pros: Old world charm and great staff
Cons: Updating the facility - make the bathrooms safer, sound insulation.
We stayed at the Hotel Russell for three nights for my daughter's graduation. The front desk staff was friendly and accommodating, although we were disappointed that the room we thought we reserved on Expedia actually cost us an extra 30%. Overall, I would not rebook at this hotel. It has a ton of old world charm and good location but it's not worth the old world inconveniences like noise, poor lighting, dirty carpeting and unsafe shower. Overall I was very disappointed with this hotel. Pros - - excellent location across from Russell Square - gorgeous old world architecture - convenient access to Russell Square underground station - friendly staff - affordable - although upon checking in our rate went up by 30% because we needed to "upgrade" to a queen sized bed which was very disappointing. I think our booked rate was $159/night, and the "upgrade was 30lbs or about $45. Cons - - VERY noisy. You might as well sleep on the street... no kidding. Paper thin walls, no noise insulation through the windows. Terrible sleeping conditions. - the shower is unsafe. It's difficult to turn the shower on without getting wet. The controls aren't reachable easily because the sink is in the way. You also can't get in and out easily. There's a big step up into the tub and there's nothing to hold on to. - Overall the place is poorly lit - the carpets seemed dirty to me. This hotel is 3 stars at best.

Not suitable for couples

Posted 22-Jan-2016
Pros: Centrally located
Cons: Service could be far better to cater for people travelling as a couple
Location: Centrally located
The room had frosted/privacy glass on the windows and we were unable to see out of them because of this, also we were unable to open any of them for fresh air as they had been nailed shut. Whilst the room was nice it was too dark and there was insufficient lighting. Overall we felt like we were treated as some form of second class citizen compared to the attention that businessmen were getting. Although this is a more expensive hotel to stay at London it's one that I would definitely not return to.

Well located for west end & city

Posted 20-Jan-2016
Pros: Well positioned
Cons: Old fashioned, needs a bit of an update without losing its Victorian character
Location: Good for west end, Kings Place & City. Waitrose & rang of chain & independent coffee shops close by
Welcoming & responsive staff, comfortable room for a one night stay

Best experience ever

Posted 15-Jan-2016
We found Hotel Russell to be an amazing place to stay, staff are incredible friendly, polite and helpful. Hotel is immaculate and well presented. I felt that I was staying in a well to do hotel for a really good price. We did book the junior suite which given our experiences in other hotels met our expectations. Location was fine for us and walking distance to west end and a little more of a walk for key tourist attractions. I would stay here again
