Beautiful location on old canal between lochs

Posted 07-Jan-2018
Pros: Quaint charm, warmth of staff, delicious food.
Cons: Bathrooms could be updated, but that would detract from the character of the facility overall.
Location: We explored along lochs Sween and Fyne. As it was New Years day, not much was open, but that also meant the one track roads were mostly clear of cars.
Stayed on New Year's Eve. Wonderful meal and a surprisingly complete menu offering. Fabulous food and quaint old room with a Victorian era bathroom (cold floors!), but there were heaters and the hot water supply was sufficient. It was a throwback to the days of old, but with modern comforts and excellent warmth from the owners and staff. We woke up on Jan 1 to discover we had a flat tire, and the owner was very helpful in getting us in touch with services to get us on our way.

I thought the hotel was fine a bit tired in places but overall fine. Food was really good and the staff were welcoming and helpfull. Internet worked , shower was fine and I got a good nights sleep. Also the location is second to none I would book again.

Hotel on Crinan Canal

Posted 23-Oct-2017
Arrival was easy to find and made welome, helped to room which was pleasant and comfortable. Dinner was reasonably priced and good food. No hot water in morning for washing was disappointing and breakfast was chaotic. This may have partly been due to the fact that there was a wedding the previous day.

Comfortable but a little dated

Posted 09-Oct-2017 on Hotels
Pleasant stay but due to bad weather conditions we did cut the break short. Hotel was comfortable but a little dated with no wifi in rooms only in reception area. Also noted very bad condition of dining room carpet.

Cairnbaan stay

Staff work hard to deliver a good service. The hotel appears to be run by a manager and a team of young people, some of them trainees. A pleasant atmosphere, nice people, fantastic location.

Characterful country house by Crinan Canal

Posted 25-Jul-2017
Pros: Beautiful location, great locally sourced food, some lovely period features in the main hotel building.
Cons: Dining room needs a makeover- carpet shabby and some of the seats ripped. Younger staff could benefit from more training in finer details of service.
Location: Approx 10 mins north of Lochgilphead. Walking, cycling, archaeology and history in Kilmartin Glen, sailing on Crinan Canal and Spund of Jura
A second stay at the Cairnbaan to visit family in the area. The location is ideal and we have always enjoyed the food. However, compared to our previous visit four years ago we felt the premises had become a bit shabby- which is a shame. Such a charming old house in this stunning location could really be fit from with a few new carpets, sofas and dining chairs to hit the 'boutique country house' mark.
