Our family of four rather enjoyed our stay in Hotei-an. Things didn't get off to the best start because we had great difficulty locating the property. The frontage as you see in the photos doesn't actually face the street. After much wandering around with our luggage and also having to resort to calling the owners, we eventually found the property after ducking into a tiny alleyway which looked like it would have led to someone's backyard.
This is a two-storey property with two bedrooms (one with beds and one with futons) on the second floor. On the first floor, there is a living room, a dining room, a kitchenette and a bathroom. The two floors are connected by a narrow and fairly steep flight of stairs so I suggest leaving your luggage on the ground floor.
While the property claims to have housekeeping, it seems they are quite specific in the areas that they attend to. They will tidy the beds and replenish the towels for example, but not wash empty tea cups.
All in all a very comfortable stay, that is, once you actually find the property!
