Warm and welcoming self catering cottage located in a small hamlet, in the beautiful south west part of Cumbria, and is ideal for couples (or couples with a child) who want good access to the surrounding stunning countryside, or just to have the opportunity to chill. The cottage, which was originally a small pottery, adjoins the owners main home which is a converted Dutch Barn. This barn was originally part of a working farm and is sited furthest away from the original farmhouse and therefore, as well as enjoying lovely views over the neighbouring farmers fields, the property is not overlooked by other houses. The cottage has been lovingly and stylishly converted to a very high standard.

You enter the property into an open plan area with a stunning mezzanine lounge/dining and kitchen above. A warm underfloor heated natural travertine stone floor covers the entire ground floor. The downstairs lounge has a cosy area to watch TV and there is a polished cast-iron electric stove if you need any backup heat. The bedroom, with good quality bedding, and the separate shower room with walk-in shower and big fluffy towels, both lead off from the downstairs lounge. We can provide a cot or toddler bed in the bedroom on request. The upstairs and downstairs lounges both have 2 seater sofas.Upstairs is light and airy and is a good place to read and relax. The kitchen is spacious and fully fitted including a washer/dryer and dishwasher. The kitchen is well equipped with everything that you would need including a Tassimo coffee maker and an assortment of pods.

French doors from the ground floor lounge area lead out onto a small private secluded garden, with cast-iron table and chair- where you can sit in the morning with a cup of coffee and watch the buzzards soar over the woods. There is a chiminea to keep you warm if the evening is chilly. Upstairs, a stable door leads out onto a balcony with a cast iron table and chairs and a barbecue. This area is perfect to enjoy the afternoon sun.

There is private parking for one car and a covered storage area is available for bikes.

Five star gem of a holiday cottage
We’ve just reluctantly returned home after a truly wonderful week staying in The Cottage. The property is comfy, clean and very well appointed having everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break - even down to a bottle of prossecco awaiting our arrival. Situated on the outskirts of Kirkby in Furness, the cottage is a great base for exploring Cumbria, especially the South West Lakes. The friendly owners, Chris and Mike, live next door and have lots of ideas for places to visit including local eateries and picnic spots. We really couldn’t recommend this property highly enough .

Home from home
We had a lovely & extremely comfortable stay in The Cottage in early August. The cottage has everything you need & more which made self-catering very easy! The owners were very accommodating & thoughtful, for example, providing a lovely toddlers bed for our 2 year old daughter & even books & her own crockery. We would thoroughly recommend the cottage as a very clean, comfortable high quality place to stay to explore the Lake District.
