We are just a 100 yard walk down a dead-end street that ends at the beach! This part of the beach is very uncrowded even during the summer. Upon entering, you will be greeted with tiled floors that are offset by the warmth of vintage California redwood paneling and exposed brick walls. This house is truly stuck in the 1970s and not decked out with all the latest gadgets or appliances. It is very simplistic, rustic, and well, kind of quirky. To offset what it is lacking, it has a prime island location! It's suitable for 2 people, or 3 if the third person wants to sleep on a small couch, or you're welcome to bring a blow-up mattress – there is ample room for one. Please note: guests will not have access to AC/Heat controls. This house is equipped with a finicky geo-thermal unit. If you desire a certain temp, please let us know and we will adjust the thermostat to your desire. However, being an older home located in a subtropical climate, it will never be 70 degrees inside during the summer months. The property sits upon what once was a natural sand dune and is very shady with lots of oaks and palm trees. There is unkempt vegetation everywhere – there is no manicured lawn here. (This lot is reminiscent to what this end of island looked like before the resort area was developed). We have chosen to have a sustainable yard – no watering required – and provide an ecological oasis for native plants and animals. If you're lucky, you will see the small herd of white tail deer that call a corner of the yard their home. PLEASE NOTE: We are surrounded by lots of trees; therefore, there is not a lot of natural light inside, so it may be too dark for some people’s taste. We have ample lighting and lamps throughout to compensate for the lack of natural light coming through the windows and doors. However, this can be beneficial especially during the hot summer months after being out on the beach all day. So, if what you’re looking for is a place with all the bells and whistles of a newly renovated home or an airy light-filled modern beach house with all the latest appliances and perks, please look elsewhere – you’re not going to be happy here. We strive to make our guests happy and comfortable during their stay and enjoy their time in our ocean playground. \*\*FYI: there is no dishwasher or washer/dryer. If you need to do laundry, there is an IOP Laundromat about 2.5 miles away in the Harris Teeter shopping center. PETS: We do accept friendly, housebroken dogs only – Limit 2 Dogs – preferably smaller dogs, but will accept large dogs depending on breed. ALL DOGS MUST BE PRE-APPROVED PRIOR TO BOOKING. We charge a non refundable pet fee of $50\. This fee is included in your quote when you select that you are bringing pets. Also, when outside, your dog will have to be on a leash and all pet waste will have to be picked up and disposed in the outside trash bin. We do not accept cats. City of Isle of Palms Dog Rules: Dogs can run off-leash on the beach every day from 5a.m. to 9a.m., after that, they must be leashed at all times. If you are looking for a getaway that is affordable and easy to access the beach, this is a perfect option. The property is not fancy but it is very clean and had everything my husband and I needed. We brought our dog and since the apartment was quiet and dark, he felt comfortable being there by himself. The owners were accommodating and responsive and easy to work with and we felt comfortable/safe being on the property. This end of the island is less busy and was relaxing for us. If you are interested in modern or oceanfront, this is probably not the place for you. It is dark and older, but a short walk to the ocean. If you do that and understand what you are getting then you will be very happy. The location couldn't be much better. That end of the beach is very quiet. The house is unusual and interesting. It reminds me of a hobbit home. It has everything but nothing is top shelf. I stayed there with my dog so she could have a beach vacation and that worked out great. The tiny shower has a wand so you can bathe your dog after the beach. I enjoyed it. ##### Hirsh L. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. We were very happy with the price and being able to bring our pets. Only thing I would recommend is a porch light by the door and to clean up the yard along the sidewalk. When we would walk our dogs on Palm Blvd, the grasses were growing over the sidewalk. Nothing a weed eater couldn’t fix quickly. Would definitely stay there again. ##### Lisa F. My grandson and I had so much fun here. I had siblings visit while I was there and there were plenty of places to sit comfortably. The outdoor area was just amazing for us. The architecture was just great. We really liked exploring and everyone wanted to look inside and see every nook. The beach was also amazing. We found shark teeth, shells, rocks and sand dollars galore. I hope to return someday with my husband. ##### Marian C. I did realize when I booked that it wasn’t modern which was fine with me .. I’m no diva but the place had a mildew smell that I couldn’t take .. bed hard as a board … poison oak everywhere outside .. If you are expecting to stay at a high end beach house with white beach decor then this is not your vibe! My wife and especially our dog loved the cool dark vibes that reminded us of a Hawaiian haven on the back shore! The fact that you are a short 200 yd walk from a beautiful beachfront is a huge plus. Our only disappointment was with the bed as it was way too firm and could have used some type of pillow top and the pillows just too flat. All in all it was a great trip and we enjoyed chilling in this rustic beach retreat!! ##### Tim B. This Rustic Beach Retreat location on IOP was exactly what we wanted! We Read and Reread the absolute narrative description of this "very simplistic, rustic, and kind of quirky" home. The absolute description says it all, as the explanation is indeed absolutely accurate. To offset what it’s lacking, it does have a "great beach-y vibe and a primo location". As stated: the "cottage" "may be too dark inside for some people’s taste", however for us this simplistic, rustic & quirky abode was a reprieve from ALL of the other homes that are exactly alike! Great location and where we not only wanted to be, BUT where we needed to be! Thanks for letting us stay! ##### Debbie L. The property description was accurate though we cook and I’ll tell you what, pots and pans were sparse! One very small pot with lid, one small very worn Teflon skillet with no lid and one larger wok like skillet with no lid were what was available. There was one 5x7 cutting board and no hot mitts. There was some tea and olive oil and salt and pepper. If we come back sometime I’ll bring some cooking gear. Great location and the space was a comfortable temperature. ##### Berkeley B.
