Delightful location. Food solid decent bar food, very nice venison pie. Nice breakfast food and service. Front of house Janet excellent. However on arrival we were told it was being run ‘as a guest house’. Told as only 3 staff owing to Covid. Not clear what this meant until 1st full day when after dinner in the evening the owner announced when I asked for another drink that the bar was closing and I would have to take it to my room. This was 9.10pm. The place was empty and non residents were being turned away.
This is not what you expect from a functioning hotel, certainly not one I have been in many times. Place was dead. Turns out in process of being sold and clear loss of interest in basic hospitality. Moved hotels after 2nd night of 4. Rest of Island functioning normally, with full hotels and well staffed. There is no other bar for miles. Won’t be going back altho if new owners run it as a proper hotel it would be very decent, so don’t rule out and look for recent reviews.
