Older Hotel near downtown

Posted 23-Jul-2017
Pros: Nice Rooms, good area.
Cons: We happened to be there on the few hot days in Edinburgh - AC would have been nice though 99% of the time it isn't needed.
Location: Royal Mile, etc.
Typical Hilton Hotel but older (former Hospital we were told). Rooms are nice and roomy but a little tired and without AC. Hotel staff was very nice, helpful, friendly. Nice bar. Not too far from center of Edinburgh - easy walk (5-10 mins) or cab. Not too far from Royal mile and main attractions.

Disgusting Hotel

Posted 14-Jul-2017
I was very disappointed in the condition of this hotel. I expected better and the facility was totally outdated. My first day there, i found blood on my sheets and requested that they be changed. The toilets made loud growling sounds when flushed, the water ran slow, no air conditioner just a small fan, dirty walls with chipped paint through the hotel, sqeaking floors, outdated stained carpets and an elevator that jolted when stopped. The best part of the hotel is the main floor but the living quarters is disgusting. The hotel does have a nice professional staff and a great breakfast.

Hotel is in a good location. The hotel is very comfortable and nicely furnished. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful but the Reception staff in particular were lovely.

Close to the Train station

Posted 04-May-2017
Pros: Friendly staff and old world building. The bar was nice to go to after a long day of touristy things before going to bed.
Cons: Keep the same hours for the breakfast buffet on the weekends as during the week so those leaving by plane can get some coffee. We did have some food.
Location: Location is close to the Haymarket train station.
This is an old building and the hot and cold water on the sink are separate. The shower mixes the water, but be careful. The staff is friendly and the breakfast buffet is worth $10 USD pp. It is very good and so is the staff. The train station is around the corner, so we went to Aberdeen 2 hours away for the day and went to Glasgow 45 minutes away for the day as well. The hop on hop off in Edinburgh is quite a walk away down Princes street to stop #2 at St. John's Cathedral. One might want to take a tram, a bus, or a cab to get there. The concierge got a cab for us on the day we were going on a tour that met us by Edinburgh Castle. The cab was gratis, but would have been about 4.50 GBP.

Very helpful and friendly staff

Posted 25-Apr-2017
Very nice hotel my only complaint would be the hardness of the bed. However , some people may like a hard bed. Staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful which made our stay really pleasant. Very central to most things and had a lovely breakfast each day.

Great location

Beautiful city. Good location especially for the price we paid. Car park was a mile walk away though and room was very small for two adults.

An ok stay

Posted 19-Apr-2017
The floors were so squeaky in our room that it was impossible to take a step in any direction without the floor sounding like it was going to give out! The pillows were also uncomfortable. The location was a great choice for us not knowing where we were staying but I would of preferred something closer to old town for next time! The check in hostesses were so friendly and helpful and the continental breakfast was amazing and so was the wait staff there!

Probably the worst Hilton I've ever stayed in

very old and in bad condition. No parking (the one they offer is about 20 walk). internet is very slow in the rooms. No soundproofing plus floors and furniture is very noisy. Won't recommend

Not great experience at all

I found the Staff in the Townhouse very ignorant and not friendly. It was an effort to ask them to do something for you. When we checked in in the main part of the hotel they were very nice and also the staff at breakfast. Wouldn't stay in the Townhouse part again it's very, old, floor boards are creaky and you can hear conversation from other rooms easily. The rooms are very small and compact and the bathroom also.
