Comfortable hotel with very big and spacious rooms

Posted 14-Jan-2017
Pros: Clean ,spacious and comfortable rooms
Location: Very well positioned for loads of touristy stuff such as Titanic bits, Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth etc etc
I stayed for 4 days on a business trip. The room was serviced daily and was very clean, spacious and comfortable as was the bed. There is a Spa which was small but perfectly adequate for a small group, a couple or a single person to enjoy. Staff were all very friendly and polite. I did not eat in the Restaurant but did so in the bar where there is a limited menu, but the food did what it said on the tin, more than adequately. The decor and furnishings are generally in keeping with this 17th century house

Ideal location

Lovely room. Rubbish shower. Unable to get hot water through to shower over bath. When toilet flushed and shower turned on very loud noise ran through pipes until the water flow stopped.

Cons: Breakfast - staff could be friendlier. Needs more waitresses (1 is not enough). Felt rushed & impatient.
Average - breakfast was a letdown. Dark small room & impatient waitress. Used to be a lot better when breakfast was in the main hall.

Could and should be so much better

Firstly, I'm giving an honest opinion based on other stats at hotels for similar or less prices. We stayed for one night at a cost of £120 (breakfast included), our room was not in the main building but in a small block to the side. The room was very dated, cracks in walls, In desperate need of decorating, The bed had clearly seen better days and was a small double, the bathroom was dated and not very clean (coffee stains up the back of the door!) and the door annoyingly could not be closed without locking and keep banging against the door stop each time. Parking bays were small and there didn't appear to be that many for such a big hotel. Breakfast was ok, but I'd certainly not have paid £16 for it, glad it was part on the deal. I'd say I've stayed in nicer Premier Inns for a lot less money and much more comfort.

Could be so much more!

Hotel is looking very old inside once you get past the front desk. Rips in carpet, dirty woodwork, peeling paint and very very old looking sofa in the room. Shower only has one temperature... 1 million degrees celcius! Breakfast was cooked fresh and was nice, although table appeared to be sticky, likely the cleaning liquid used, not dirty, but it was a little unpleasant. Unfortunately as we arrived late on Friday night and had to leave fist thing Saturday for a wedding we did not have time to speak to anyone.
