Knew of hotel before we left the country 16 year

Posted 17-Aug-2015
Pros: Staff, food, spa, rooms
Cons: A/C in rooms
Knew of hotel before we left the country 16 years ago and we knew it was conveniently situated for our 8 night stay to visit family. To be honest, we expect some "faded glory" but were so pleasantly surprised at the overall standard. The staff were absolutely brilliant - we did not meet one person who did not have a smile on their face, or help in any way they could. The building is obviously old, but the modernization has kept the "feel" of the building excellently. The rooms were very comfortable and individually decorated which was a nice touch - the room that the couple with which we were traveling was totally different in decor - so refreshing from the identical decor of many of the well-known chain hotels. I gave 'pleasing' (4/5) for the room because, fortunately/unfortunately we had very warm weather while we were there, and would have appreciated A/C in the rooms, particularly overnight. Overall, we would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Super spa hotel

Arrived as weather beaten touring cyclist. Staff most friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.

Pros: The peace and quiet, considering it's so close to the M3 and the spa and swimming pool.
Cons: The external facade could do with some TLC. The continental breakfast would be improved by offering nuts and seeds to go with the muesli.
I had an overnight Sunday stay which meant it was very quiet. It is a comfortable country hotel complete with horses in the paddock with lovely gardens. The whole place has an air of olde worlde slightly faded elegance.

Birthday overnight stop

Posted 29-May-2015 on Hotels
Met friends and choose here as halfway for us. Hotel is nice but getting tired. Friends got an upgrade and had a 4 poster room which looked like it had been refreshed. Our room was quite dated but very clean with good quality bedding and towels. Helpful staff. Didn't use Spa.

Not bad for short stays

Posted 26-May-2015 on Hotels
1 night stay - was upgraded to a four poster bed so room was better than expected. Bar service was poor - bar staff not attentive and served other people ahead of us even though we had been standing there a while. This really annoys me as a good barman should know who's next. Some parts of hotel looking tired and need redecorating. Breakfast was usual buffet style but was good.

Bit of a let down

Posted 25-May-2015
A grand building according to photos and the hotel exterior but inside it's a different story. The room was outdated and bed sagging in the middle. Communal spaces also had the feel of a hostel. Water system makes terrifying noises that sounds like there's an elephant in the bathroom. Sorry to say we won't be returning

Botleigh Grange Hotel

Posted 19-May-2015 on Hotels
Hotel very tatty, dark and forbidding! Furniture in bedroom scratched and chairs in bar very soiled and worn. Staff rather unsure of themselves, need some training. Bar food OK but dull. Breakfast OK. Didn't try the spa as looked rather dark in there. Garden lovely.

Great hotel and spa!

Posted 18-May-2015
Room was very spacious when considering the price for a double was well under £100. The only minor negative was noticed when I tried to call the reception on my way back to the hotel from function at approximately 23:00 hours. Although the hotel phone number did get me through to the automated switchboard, once I selected the extension I required, the phone line disconnected. Aside from that one small issue it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay and highly recommended for future travellers.
