Cramped hostel on busy noisy road

Posted 17-Aug-2017
Pros: Well positioned for access to Dover town centre and sea front
Cons: Double or triple glazing. Good clean required through out.
Location: Town centre and sea front is easily accessible on foot. A few restaurants nearby. Dover castle is also accessible with a 25 minute walk for the fit.
Although well positioned for access to Dover town centre and the sea front, the hostel is very cramped and has a musty smell of sweat throughout. The noise from traffic and local youths kept us awake into the early hours so that the following day we were tired on our excursions. There is no double glazing so you hear everything from the outside. Parking is very restrictive on a side road where you have to be away by 8.30 am before your are fined. Although quite cheap to stay with a very basic breakfast, the necessities of a good nights sleep are essential and this location fails . . . . the rest is tolerable.

Great place to stay while backpacking

Posted 16-May-2017 on Hotels
Arrived, off the ferry from Calais, an hour early for checkin. There really isn't a lobby in the traditional sense. We waited in front of the gas station across the street. 40 minutes later I saw someone opening the door to the cafe that was below the living quarters. The woman was very pleasant and offered to let us access the room a half hour early. There was no room card or key. It was a locking mechanism which required a code that changed daily. I thought this was great until the second day when I forgot the code. There was a staircase directly on the other side of the door which was bearly wide enough for the luggage. Clearly designed for travelers with a backpack or a small bag. It was a steep set of winding stairs, that for the most part, were very dark, until the landings, where there was a sensor that turned on as we walked through. There was a communal kitchen on the first floor that had all the items needed to store and heat up food, Flatwear and dishes included. We made good use of that room, which was big enough for no more than 2 people at a time. After climbing another flight of stairs with 3 rolling bags and a backpack, which was no easy task, we got to the room. As expected the room was equally tiny with 2 beds, flatscreen TV and a bathroom. beds were ok to lay on, but not great to sit on. The edges of the mattress were a bit stiff. The owners were very nice and prepared a breakfast for the guests each day, when you got that days code. Toast cereal and egg..

damp, dirty and basic

Posted 20-Apr-2017 on Hotels
we looked for a convenient stop-over to catch an early morning ferry. Location was convenient, everything else was miserable. The whole building smelt of damp and mold, the room was dirty, the bathroom still had previous occupants hair in the shower, the blinds looked like they've never been cleaned. Bedding was clean

Cheap and clean

Positive: clean and compact. Negative: no parking nearby - no lifts and cramped communal areas - stairs very steep and narrow Overview not suitable for people with mobility issues

Pros: it was close to the city center and easy to find.
Cons: Staff could smile more. Breakfast room could be more colorful and friendlier and it's toilet should be repaired. Curtains to rooms windows.
Location: good location, next to the city center and walking distance to the beach.
It's was possible to arrive late without extra charge. Location was ok for a 2 nights stay and it was very easy to find as well as very close to the city centre. My room was very small, but ok for my stay. It would have been nice to have a curtain on my room's small window.
