Schöner Blick auf's Meer

Posted 27-Jul-2016

Lovely hotel with great sea views

Posted 22-Jul-2016
Pros: Not a standard hotel box, a grand old hotel still in excellent health and full of character.
Cons: Maybe a bit of TLC to minor faults in the decor, but I'm being picky.
Location: Just up the hill from Torquay harbour. Living Coasts is a couple of minutes away and worth a visit. Babbacombe Model Village is as excellent as ever
We stayed as couple for 3 days B&B. Our room was not sea facing but was well laid out and had a separate hallway which cushioned us nicely from corridor noise. 2 comfy chairs and a table to sit in as well as a comfortable bed and huge flat screen TV. Not your standard L shaped bedroom which added to its charm. The room had a couple of knocks and bumps, but only those inflicted by guests over time, it was well used but not tired. Nice toiletries in the bathroom, a safe and trouser press as well as a good range of teas and coffees in the box by the kettle. Breakfast buffet offered full English, continental, porridge, toast, pastries and a self serve fancy coffee machine as well as pots of tea and coffe at the table. Some other items available to order, some at a surcharge. Bar/lounge is huge and airy with a good range of snacks and bar meals. Both the bar/lounge and restaurant have great sea views. Wifi was probably the best hotel wifi I have used, no drop out and reasonable speeds for the social media and surfing I do. The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a games room and spa. We did not use these but there seemed to be many guests happily using them. Easy walking to the harbour past the Living Coasts aquarium. You can sometimes see the penguins from the path as you walk by. Parking is charged but we had not problem finding a space in the outdoor car park each time we returned from a day out.

Disappointing Stay, after looking forward to it

Posted 22-Jul-2016
Pros: The location was excellent and we did have a side sea view. Reception and bars are stunning.
Cons: Needs repainting. Needs major overhaul or replacement of boiler and customer services really needs addressing urgently.
Location: Perfect location and depending on your tastes, many many things to do either on foot or by car.
We booked a standard room (150), so didn't expect too much but the room was really small and the double bed was pushed up again a wall to be able to walk round. However, the room was clean and we did have a side view of the sea with a balcony, so were grateful for that. The room was not ready for us on check-in at 3pm. The hotel is tired and needs a major lick of paint but the worst thing was that the boiler broke down for our whole stay, so we did not have hot water for shower. We boiled kettles to wash. The reception staff apologised when we complained but said there was nothing more that could be done and did not offer any compensation. I since emailed a complaint but have yet to receive any acknowledgement or reply. Therefore, I don't think they are actually interested in providing a good service. They certainly do not want to encourage return visitors. The breakfast was good and the hotel is in a very nice location with views across the bay. I would not book to stay there again purely because of the really bad customer service. I have stayed there a number of times a few years ago and really enjoyed it, hence booking to stay this time. Likewise, I would not feel able to recommend the hotel to anyone.

close to shops which I liked

Posted 16-Jul-2016
Pros: the proximity to shops and cafes
Cons: the food, although it was good, was too expensive for us,and after being charged £20 for 2 whiskeys, that was it for us,we ate out after that.
Location: shops museums and lovely promenades, all were very enjoyable.
we had a short 6 night stay, but after the first day found that the cost of food and drink was very expensive, but luckily we found several reasonably priced eating places near by,

Hotel in a lovely location

Posted 08-Jul-2016
We only stayed one night. The hotel is in a great location being walking distant into Torquay, but abit of a hill climb on the way back! Whilst the decor is tired the views from the conservatory and restaurant across Torbay are fabulous.

Lovely views over Torbay

Posted 12-Jun-2016
Pros: Closeness to all amenities .
Cons: Only a bit of refurbishing in some areas.
Location: On the English Riviera. Boat trips, Steam train rides, excursions to The holiday home of Agatha Christie. There is also the Princess Theatre.
I booked a stay at the Imperial Hotel as a 70th Birthday treat for my husband. He wanted somewhere with a swimming pool, well he was not disappointed, there were two, one inside at the Spa and one outside. Perfect. We found the hotel very comfortable, with areas catering for everyone. The staff were excellent, the dining experience too was very good. The only slight fault that I could find, was that in some areas the decor needed a little TLC. We would definitely stay there again and recommend this Hotel if you are visiting Torquay.

They need to decorate and get a handy man in !

Posted 06-Jun-2016
Pros: view
Cons: decor, general maintenance
The window in the bathroom was painted shut, the wood around the room door (room 23) was splintered and needed mending, the patio outside out room was full of weeds. The lovely sea view and weather made up for this. They need to get the maintenance man in - faded grandeur has set in.
