Nice but noticeably old hotel.

Posted 07-Feb-2016
Pros: View, Restaurant staff
Cons: See above
Location: Good location as long as you are athletic or use a taxi. No info at hotel. Tourist Office closed on Thursdays. Only place is Railway stn
Staff could have been more helpful on arrival. No details of local attractions on display. Told it would take 1h15m to get to Newton Abbott Stn by taxi. Took just 22 mins. Room furniture very time worn. Food very good

Jaded and disappointing

Posted 28-Jan-2016
Pros: Sea views
Cons: Pretty much everything!
Fatantasic views and the breakfast is good. Lots of choice. Room was a huge disappointment except for the views. Why does a hotel provide slippers and bath robes and reasonable toiletries and yet the bed has stained linen, cheap mattress protectors and a nasty black valance that didn't fit, so you could see the divan bed underneath. We had our two little dogs with us so we didn't expect the best room, but I booked a superior room on Expedia and it wasn't like their photo at all. We complained about the bed sheets and they were changed, but everything in the room is shabby and worn. No pictures on the wall so huge empty spaces staring at you. Staff were very pleasant, but the management team need to get their act together! It's a shame because the hotel itself is magnificent and it could be wonderful if the addressed these issues,We will be down in Torquay again soon but we will not be staying there!

Fabulous view from balcony

Premium double was clean and spacious. Bathroom small but clean. Lovely foyer, high ceilings and chandelier. Arrived early and were told our room was ready which was welcome after a long drive. On the negatives were told the no scones and cream available at 5:15 as stopped serving cream teas at 5pm which I thought was a little poor. £7 per night parking is a bit cheeky. Breakfast okay but appalling dishwater coffee.

Pros: Position, facilities
Cons: Staff attitude
The main restaurant was closed to guests who were not on a coach trip . We were not told in advance only when we asked to book a table. The alternative place to eat was the bar and conservatory which were cold and unwelcoming. Staff were unfriendly unless you were on a coach trip!!. Disappointing stay.
