Reservation not honored

Posted 22-Sep-2016
Pros: not one thing. didn't check in as the reserved room was not available. Had to look for a new hotel at midnight, after driving for 15 hours.
Cons: honor your reservations. if someone pays 3 weeks in advance, make sure the requested room is available for the entire stay, not just the first night.
Location: next to a college, so our visits for 4 years would have been guaranteed had they honored our reservation
I paid IN FULL 3 weeks in advance for one room with two double beds, non-smoking, for two nights. When I got to the hotel after driving for 15 hours, I was told that they could give me one room for one night non-smoking, but could not guarantee a non-smoking room for the second night. The hotel supposedly guarantees late arrivals, yet they could NOT PROVIDE US WITH THE ROOM THEY ACCEPTED PAYMENT FOR. The receptionist blamed Expedia. I called Expedia, they blamed the hotel. The receptionist "explained" how the system works and how there will be numbers of people checking out the next day and perhaps a non-smoking room will be available. I told her I don't care about their computer system, all I care about is getting the non-smoking room for two nights I paid for. She could not guarantee it and I wasn't going to check in and then be forced to spend the second night in a smoking room because they were never going to find me a non-smoking room. So we didn't check in and went looking for a new hotel, two females at midnight in Chicago. My daughter is starting college, and this was going to be our hotel to go to for the next 4 years for every visit. I already cancelled an October stay with them. I will never go back to this hotel, and would not recommend it to anyone, as they are willing to overbook and ignore what was already reserved. Worst hotel experience ever.

Clean, functional room for a great price

We recently stayed 4 nights at the Lake Shore. The bed was comfortable and the everything was in working order. You can't beat the price for the proximity to the shore.

Not worth the money

Posted 12-Aug-2016
Pros: They provided free wifi and many TV channels.
Cons: Too much to list here.
Location: Located in the loop close to the Museum of Science and Industry. Across street from Lake Michigan but no view of it.
I booked two rooms at this hotel several months before our trip. When we arrived the girl could only find one room. I had to show her on my confirmation that I had booked two rooms. She seemed irritated that she had to search to find the reservation. But after a few minutes she did find the reservation. At this point she said we'd have to wait for her to input our information for the room, but she took two other customers and inputted their information before us (though we had been there a good 15 minutes before the other customers). In unit 524, the bathroom is an odd configuration with the commode two feet away from toilet paper. The shower had a high whistle sound and barely spit out any water. We were in a non-smoking room (which I thought all the rooms in that section were), but there was someone in our group of rooms smoking a LOT of dope. With the half inch gap at the top of our door, the smell flooded into our room as well as the entry hall. In unit 516, the chain lock for door was missing. Don't be fooled by the pictures, the hotel isn't as nice as shown. The pool was closed and the surrounding area of the hotel was sketchy.

Ok if you have a tight budget

Posted 30-Jul-2016
I chose to stay here because it was the closest hotel to my conference. It was also inexpensive. It seems to be an older place, but it has been refurbished. The bathroom was in good condition with new tub and tile. The furnishings were worn and the refrigerator tipped forward when I tried to open its door, so I had to shim it level with a phone book. The wifi internet (shared from the LaQuinta right next door) NEVER worked the entire two days I was there, which they blamed on a storm that came through the night I arrived. On the positive side, I enjoyed the short walk to the footbridge to get to the Lake Shore trail. I would say location is the best feature of the hotel, if you need someplace to stay in Hyde Park.

Nice hotel close to museums

Posted 29-Jul-2016
Pros: The hotel fit our budget. Room very clean and bed very comfortable.
Location: There are several museums near by. Wide variety of places to go eat.
I went to Chicago with 14 yr old grand daughter to go to the museums, very easy to get to from this hotel. The room was perfect for us. We were able to get a buffet breakfast right on the property. The pool was very nice and there was free parking at the hotel. You can see Lake Michigan from the parking lot, what a view !!!

Nice hotel right across from the Lake.

Pros: The staff
Cons: The rooms were a little rough but clean.
Location: Chicago.
We had a great visit. The hotel was a little run down, but very clean. Chicago was fantastic.
